One of the most anticipated gaming events of the year, The Gaming Awards 2021, is the perfect place for big name developers and publishers to drop announcements. During this year's livestream, news such as Genshin Impact's new character trailer were highly anticipated by the show's audience. However, niched titles such as Tchia also took advantage of the widely-watched awards show. The upcoming open-adventure title recently shared a new trailer that showcased its tropical adventure setting and unique gameplay features.

Tchia is an independent open-world adventure title that is being developed by Awaceb. Announced during the PlayStation Showcase last September 2021, the game is based on New Caledonia, one of the small tropical islands in the South Pacific. Awaceb's founders were originally from New Caledonia, which explains the inspiration for Tchia's lush and unique location. The title was initially supposed to be a Stadia exclusive, the developers have since shifted their platform focus, with Tchia releasing on PS4, PS5, and on PC through the Epic Games Store.

During The Game Awards 2021 livestream, Tchia was one of the independent titles that released a new gameplay trailer. In the footage, the developers showcased how players will be able to explore and travel through the vast landscape of the game. The main character can be seen steering a small boat through the waters, climbing rocky mountains just like Link from Breath of the Wild, exploring caves to find hidden treasures, and even quickly traversing far distances through the use of coconut trees. A short snippet also showcased that players can change up their island look with a variety of different outfits.

In the trailer, the main character is often seen using her unique ability called Soul Jumping. This allows her to take control of any animal or object in the game, whether they are in flight, on the ground, or under water. Combining Soul Jumping with normal jumping and gliding in Tchia seems like it will provide players with an endless slew of exploration possibilities, making the title as open-world as its genre suggests. However, no matter how vast the title's in-game world is turning out to be, activity options like playing Tchia's ukulele are also offered for players who want to slow down and appreciate the beautiful scenery.

Tchia is slated to be released during Spring 2022. Awaceb has yet to announce an exact date, and has not yet divulged the complete premise of the game's story. Hopefully more trailers will be shared by the developers. Knowing more about the titular character and her reason for adventuring will likely entice more players to try out the game.

Tchia will be released for the PC, PS4, and PS5 this Spring 2022.
