What is Ooblets? That may be the first question on the minds of players who are not sure they want to jump into this colorful chaos. The trailers are a bit all over the place. Is it a chill sim game similar to Animal Crossing: New Horizons or a monster-catching RPG like the Pokemon series?

The answer is something in-between. Players jump into a new world filled with the titular Ooblets who can be used for dance battles or menial tasks like creating items. They are a small part of the game as the majority is most similar to a Harvest Moon type of sim experience. That’s the basic gameplay setup but there is so much more to learn. The following tips will focus on the sim aspects as the turn-based battles are relatively easy to pick up on.

7 Your Team Doesn’t Matter

Similar to the Pokemon games, players are asked which Ooblet they want to start with. This is done by joining one of several clubs. Whichever one players pick does not matter in the long run as all clubs need help in town.

Also, the game may seem like a monster-catching RPG, but the battles are different. The Ooblets don’t have elemental types, for example, so one of these critters will not destroy another based on some sort of tier list. The basic tip here is to choose with your gut.

6 Expand Your Inventory ASAP

Players are going to do a lot of backtracking because inventory space is very limited. Gummies are the currency in this RPG hybrid which can be gained by completing quests or selling items.

There is a small chest in the furniture store which should be purchased as soon as possible. This will increase inventory space exponentially and will allow players some relief as they collect hordes of items. Keep checking back on this store to increase inventory space further.

5 Clear Your Farm

As a sim game, players will become accustomed to a daily routine. An early example will consist of waking up to water the garden before heading into town. Grab as many resources in town as possible and try to complete quests. This may not eat up a lot of time.

The next task should be making the farmland a home. Go around and start destroying rocks, stumps, twigs, and so forth. Put those things in the inventory to stockpile resources for trade and quests. Once night falls, go to bed and repeat the process until the farm is completely organized.

4 Memorize Resource Respawns

The easiest way to get resources is through farming. That takes time and it depends a lot on the seed type. There will be resources that respawn in town though sometimes on a daily basis and sometimes there will be a longer cycle. Shells, for example, can wash up on shore.

Whenever a resource like this is found, take a manual note of where it is found. Taking a screenshot may also help with organizing your memory. Doing so on the Switch in particular should be easy thanks to the system’s built-in mechanics. It may sound like a lot of work, but it will save time in the long run. It’s always good to have a plan in an RPG or a sim.

3 Buy Seeds And Start Planting

The chest should be the first thing players purchase without a doubt. After that go to the seed store and buy three of each of the four seeds in the shop. These are resources that cannot be found easily in town. If they do appear, they are limited and won’t respawn on a quick basis.

These four seed types will speed up the process of completing quests. On the subject of gardening, make sure to keep planting Ooblets even if there is already one of the same kind on the team. They can be sent elsewhere fur other tasks. Basically, treat Ooblets like a basic farm simulator for the early hours.

2 Go Into Houses

Play Ooblets like a basic RPG and go into every house. Sometimes there will be a hidden quest or a shining piece of treasure. Talking to NPCs on a daily basis will also have some benefits.

If an NPC has a glowing orb above their head, that means they want to talk. The conversation may be one sentence long but the interactions will always deepen the friendship bonds. Once filled, players will get stickers that have a number of uses. Talking is a free action that doesn’t require stamina, so what is there to lose?

1 Grind Those Cans Into Bait

Making bait in Ooblets

One of the biggest resources players will collect on a daily basis are tin cans. They first appear in a huge pile next to the fountain and after that, they can appear on the pier. They are an eyesore and at first, they don’t seem to have much use. They cannot be sold, for example, making it tricky to earn currency fast without wasting more precious resources.

These cans can be ground into Slurry though. Ten Slurry points will create one sack of bait. The basic type of bait will typically give players fertilizer which can speed up the growth rate of plants. It doesn’t make sense how can be turned into bait but it doesn’t matter. Players can unlock this bait machine through a side quest on the pier.

Ooblets was released on September 1, 2022, and is available on PC, Switch, and Xbox One.
