Highlights

  • OneOdio A70 are affordable headphones that offer excellent sound quality and a versatile wired connection. Their 72-hour battery life and sleek design make them a great option for budget-conscious consumers.
  • The A70 headphones have punchy bass, clear mids, and sparkling highs, providing a satisfying listening experience. The memory foam earpads offer some noise isolation without completely shutting out the outside world.
  • While the A70 headphones are mostly made of plastic and use micro-USB charging, their overall performance and comfort outweigh these minor drawbacks. For just $70, they offer a remarkable balance of price, performance, and ease of use.

After testing the OneOdio Monitor 80, Game ZXC was intrigued by what else this brand has going for them. The OneOdio A70 seemed like a perfect second pair to check out, with a similar sound quality to the Monitor 80 but the ease of use that Bluetooth headphones provide. The A70 headphones are designed for DJs, but the A70 is a fantastic choice (that certainly won't break the bank) for pretty much anyone who wants a pair of budget over-ear headphones.

Over the last week, the A70 was my daily driver. Whether it was gaming, watching movies, or listening to music, these headphones were on my head. To cut to the chase, these might just stay on my head after the review is done as well.

Design and Features

A pair of OneOdio Fusion A70 on a headphone stand-3

While the OneOdio A70 are not the most revolutionary headphones out there design-wise, they do have a sleek and understated look that feels natural regardless of the setting. The oval earcups are always a welcome design choice, especially for people with bigger ears. In combination with the silver and brown colorway, it ties the retro aesthetic together nicely.

Despite being mostly made of plastic, the A70 feels reasonably durable and has no creaky hinges like other plastic headphones. Plus, the A70 folds into quite a small package with foldable hinges, making it super easy to throw these in a bag and be ready to go. However, Game ZXC would recommend using the soft carrying pouch so as not to scratch the paint, which unfortunately happened to our copy reasonably early on.

The texture on the outside of the earcups doesn't add any function, but for people who enjoy a nice texture, this is that to a tee. This regularly became a very satisfying fidget.

Connectivity

An Aux cable plugged into the OneOdio Fusion A70 and large aux cable

The A70 can connect to pretty much any device. Starting with Bluetooth, which is how most people will probably use these headphones, the connection is incredibly stable, especially for headphones at this price point. While connected to my phone, these headphones stayed stable with no cut-outs and no drop in quality across my entire apartment.

There were a couple of times my phone got left behind when leaving for a walk because of how stable the connection was. Plus, with 72 hours of playback, these headphones rarely need to be charged, although it would be nice if OneOdio went for USB-C charging instead of a micro-USB.

The wired connection, which is technically the secondary option, is fantastically implemented. Unlike most Bluetooth headphones, where the wired connection feels like an afterthought and is just slapped on there to have it, the A70 wired connections were clearly part of the plan from the start.

The 3.5mm port has a locking feature to help keep either cable secure, and while the 6.35mm jack is for a more niche use case, it is so lovely to have it included out of the box. Both of the included cables feel premium and have durable connectors. However, the coiled cable was mainly used during the testing period because it was much easier to manage.

Comfort

With its lightweight and plush earcups, the A70 is incredibly comfortable. For multiple days while testing these headphones, they did not leave my head pretty much all day. The adjustable headband is easy to dial in the correct fit, but they don't move too easily, so there is little need for readjustment. While earcups are not as deep as other headphones, like the Sennheiser HD 600 or OneOdio Monitor 80, they are still comfortable and give users' ears enough room to breathe.

The only real downside of the A70 in terms of comfort is that the leatherette earpads are not super breathable. They didn't cause any issues while using these headphones at my desk or doing household chores, but while on a couple of walks, there was a significant amount of sweat build-up. However, the heat build-up never got to a point where they became uncomfortable to wear.

Sound Quality

Text on the inside of the OneOdio Fusion A70

Everything else is well and good, but how does the A70 sound? Wearing these headphones for the first time absolutely blew me away. With most other budget Bluetooth headphones providing muddy and over-emphasized bass to sound more powerful, the A70 defies all of those tropes. Lows are powerful and punchy, mids are clear, and the highs are sparkly.

Listening to songs like Scarlet Fire by Otis McDonald, which have a powerful bass line and high melodies, shows these budget headphones' surprising range. Highs are not tinny and compressed, and the bass line is powerful and thumpy while still being tight. Regardless of what users want to listen to, these headphones deliver performance well above their price point.

When it comes to imaging and spatial audio, the A70 doesn't quite have as high performance as open-back headphones like the Monitor 80 from OneOdio. The closed-back design doesn't allow for that same intimate feeling that open-back headphones provide, but there is also much less sound leakage. So it's a give and take. Still, they offer a nice pseudo-surround sound experience in movies and games. Plus, for gamers who use the 3.5mm wired connection, the cable has an in-line mic, which provides surprisingly good sound quality.

For people who want to get a little extra oomph out, using these headphones wired with an amp makes them sound even better. But be careful because, with an impedance of 32 ohms, too much power can easily blow these drivers out.

Overall Impressions

OneOdio has once again blown Game ZXC away with its fantastic balance of superb performance and comfort while being incredibly affordable. The OneOdio A70 is a perfect option for anyone looking for a versatile pair of Bluetooth headphones that work fantastically over Bluetooth and have excellent wired performance. There are some sacrifices for this price point, like the mostly plastic build and lack of special features like ANC that many other premium Bluetooth headphones have. But for a mere $70, it is hard to go wrong with the OneOdio A70.
