The Wano Country arc gave fans one of the best wars in One Piece to date. With Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates teaming up with the Samurai of Wano and other members of the Worst Generation, the war to take down both Kaido and Big Mom and, at the same time, eliminate Orochi's rule over the land of Wano kickstarted.

As expected, tons of new Devil Fruits were introduced in the Wano Country arc and while most of them were pretty useful, there were some that were simply underwhelming and didn't live up to the expectations of the fans.

6 Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Yamata no Orochi

The Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Yamata no Orochi is a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that was eaten by the former Shogun of Wano, Kurozumi Orochi. This Devil Fruit allowed him to transform into a giant eight-headed serpent at will. Being a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, its powers are quite decent, however, despite all that, Orochi remains quite weak.

This fruit does offer eight lives to the user with each head carrying one life, however, other than that, it is nothing special. When compared to the normal Zoans, it isn't all that bad, however, compared to the Mythical Zoans, it is actually quite average. After Orochi's death, this fruit has likely been recirculated. Currently, no person wields its powers.

5 Fuku Fuku no Mi

The Fuku Fuku no Mi is a Paramecia type of Devil Fruit that was eaten by Kin'emon, the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards. Although the powers of this Devil Fruit were revealed before the Wano Country arc, It was named while the arc was ongoing. This Devil Fruit allows Kin'emon to put objects on people's heads and give them any outfit that he desires. For infiltration purposes, this fruit is actually quite useful, however, the disguise can easily be disrupted if it is damaged.

Furthermore, this fruit has no utility in combat and is thus among the worst Devil Fruits in the Wano Country arc. Against Kaido, Kin'emon would have preferred a Devil Fruit that helped him take the Yonko down. An ability that just allows him to create a disguise isn't much of a help in a country that had seen tyranny for 20 years.

4 Maki Maki no Mi

The Maki Maki no Mi was eaten by Raizo of the Mist, one of the members of the Nine Red Scabbards. This Devil Fruit was properly introduced during the Wano Country arc, where Raizo used its powers on Kaido. While it is certainly impressive as it can return any attack that it stores back to the user, it can't do the same with physical blows.

Furthermore, this Devil Fruit also needs preparation to be used and in high-level combat, it is highly unusable. The Maki Maki no Mi does have its strengths and can be a great support Devil Fruit but overall, it is certainly one of the most underwhelming fruits to be introduced in the Wano Country arc.

3 Fude Fude no Mi

Kanjuro One Piece

The Fude Fude no Mi was eaten by Kanjuro Kurozumi at a very young age. This fruit was first seen during the Dressrosa arc, where his character made its debut. The Fude Fude no Mi allowed Kanjuro to paint using his brush freely and create ink creatures at will. He could also create perfect copies of himself and other people, as seen in the Wano Country arc.

Other than that, the Fude Fude no Mi is also a decent Devil Fruit when it comes to espionage and assassination missions, however, the creatures drawn from its powers are extremely weak and can be dealt with by any half-decent fighter of the New World quite effortlessly. As such, it isn't all that effective in combat. Kanjuro himself relies more on his abilities as a samurai to fight effectively and that's proof enough that this fruit isn't all that special.

2 SMILE Devil Fruits

SMILE Devil Fruits were introduced quite early in the One Piece series. First mentioned on Sabaody Archipelago, these fruits came into play in the latter half of One Piece. SMILE Fruits give those who manage to successfully gain its powers a Zoan ability. However, these fruits are quite different from actual Zoan-type Devil Fruits. Unlike the Zoans, they don't give users the power to transform into an animal or its hybrid at will.

Instead, they make a specific part of the user's body into an animal and give them animalistic powers which, in most cases, can't be turned off. There is also no hybrid form when it comes to these fruits. Only the gifters of Kaido's crew possess these abilities as these abilities are not all that powerful, to begin with.

1 Failed Smile

While the Gifters of the Beasts Pirates have SMILE Devil Fruits that are successful, there are also those that turn out to be failures. In fact, only one in every ten SMILE fruits turns out to be successful, meaning the other nine are simply failed fruits. Surprisingly, these fruits take away the user's ability to swim just like normal Devil Fruits do, but in return, it doesn't grant them any powers.

What's worse, these fruits also take away the user's ability to express any emotions other than smiling and laughing, meaning they're caught in an eternal hell where they can only laugh, even when they're miserable. Of all the Devil Fruits in Wano Country, the failed SMILE ones are certainly the worst of the lot.
