The World Government is a big organization that was created many centuries ago by the twenty kings, who formed an alliance to defeat the "Ancient Kingdom." After erasing all the traces of the ancient kingdom, the World Government began to rule the world as its de facto leaders.

The secret of the World Government has been guarded closely, and so far, only a handful of characters know the true history, and it is mainly because any person or community that has tried to learn about the truth behind the creation of the World Government has either been eliminated or they have had to keep themselves hidden. When it was revealed that the World Government wanted to eliminate Dr. Vegapunk, it shocked the fans, as he is one of their most valuable assets, and he has made many new inventions that have benefited the organization greatly. In One Piece Chapter 1068, Vegapunk finally lifted the curtain on this mystery.

The Desire To Learn

The Giant Robot in One Piece

As a man devoted to knowledge, Vegapunk is not reluctant to get involved with subjects that could earn him the wrath of the World Government. After the Ohara massacre, he decided to visit the place to learn more about it. During his visit, Vegapunk met Dragon and the two had quite an intense conversation about the state of the world. Vegapunk even disclosed that Dragon offered him a chance to join the Revolutionary Army, but the scientist turned down the offer because he wanted money for his experiments.

Vegapunk continued to talk about Ohara and told Dragon that he was surprised to see a group of giants going through the books that the scholars had saved. Vegapunk later confirmed that he traveled to Elbaf in order to read the books. This information alone would have been enough for the World Government to punish Vegapunk, but the latter managed to keep this secret safe. In the recent chapters, Vegapunk told Luffy about the giant rusty robot that was on Egghead Island. He stated that the robot had been built by the people of the ancient kingdom and 200 years ago, it was sent by an unknown person to attack Marijoa. Fortunately for the Celestial Dragons, before it could cause any destruction, the robot ran out of fuel.

When Vegapunk got his hands on the machine, he decided to investigate the source of its power, as it was directly linked to his desire to create a form of energy that would help the entire world. This curiosity to create a non-exhaustible source caused Vegapunk to delve into the unknown and forbidden. Sadly, this time the World Government found out, and it cannot overlook this transgression.

The Assassination

CP0 inside the laboratory

The World Government has ordered CP0 to get rid of the scientist, and the assassins have made their way to Egghead Island. In chapter 1068, Lucci attacked Atlas and nearly killed her. Needless to say, Lucci will waste no time in going after the other bodies of Vegapunk. Luckily for the scientist, the Straw Hats are on the island. Vegapunk has requested Luffy to let him join the crew for a while and the young pirate has no qualms about him joining. After hearing Luffy's answer, Vegapunk asked Luffy to bring Bonney to Labophase, and then he vanished.

The pirates started moving to Vegapunk's location, and they came across Rob Lucci and his group. The chapter ended on a cliffhanger, but given the history between Luffy and Lucci, it is inevitable that the two are going to fight against each other.

The Big Brawl

Luffy fighting Rob Lucci

Once Luffy realizes that Lucci hurt Atlas, he might go berserk because she gave him food. In the previous arcs, it has been a recurring theme that Luffy has fought for the sake of those who have given him food. In Wano, it was O-Tama and in Dressrosa, it was Rebecca. If the pattern is anything to go by, then Lucci is in big trouble. While there is a strong possibility that the lapdog of the World Government has grown, it would be foolish to presume that he can challenge someone like Luffy, who is in a league of his own. In their last meeting, Luffy managed to defeat Lucci without even using Haki, and at the moment, the pirate can use the advanced versions of all three types.

Lucci's only hope is that Luffy somehow decides to ignore him and keeps moving, but the odds of that happening are low. In addition to the threat of the Straw Hat Pirates, Lucci and co. also have to fight against three Seraphim. Each Seraphim has enough power to fight against a Shichibukai as powerful as Boa Hancock. In addition to their tremendous physical strength, the Seraphim are also armed with devil fruits. In any case, things aren't looking good for Lucci and co. Their best option would be to retreat and come back with more manpower. However, this would allow Vegapunk and his satellites to get away from Egghead, and CP0 cannot afford to let that happen, so they will have to fight till the bitter end.
