Highlights

  • Fujitora's sense of justice sets him apart from other Admirals. He prioritizes the well-being of the people over serving the World Government's interests.
  • Unlike most Marines, Fujitora judges pirates based on their actions rather than their status. He can be an ally to outlaws if they protect innocent people.
  • Fujitora's outspoken nature and tendency to defy orders make him a potential threat to the World Government. His future within the Marines remains uncertain.

Admirals are without a doubt some of the strongest people not only in the Marine, but also in the entire world. They are the top of the food chain that possess the strength of thousands of regular marine soldiers, both literally and figuratively. They are the heroes of the people and the nightmare of the pirates.

Underneath all of those powers and responsibilities, however, the Admirals are still human beings with different sets of beliefs, preferences, and personalities. There have been five admirals introduced to the series thus far. Aokiji, Akainu, Kizaru, Fujitora, and Ryokugyu. All of them are humble servants of the World Government, and they are unique in their own way. But one of them in particular is an outlier of the group. This outlier is Fujitora, and here are some of the things that make him so different from the other Admirals.

Fujitora’s Sense of Justice

One Piece Fujitora apologizing to king Riku

Although the Admirals, and everybody else in the Marines for that matter, stands at the side of justice, Fujitora has always had his own sense of justice that may at times differ from the world government’s brand of justice. It’s unclear when that unique sense of justice started to bloom in his mind, but one thing for sure, being the Admiral of a Marine does not morph that feeling at all. On the contrary, Fujitora is even more stubborn in upholding his version of justice now.

So what is Fujitora’s sense of justice, and how does it differ from the rest of the Marines? For the most part, everybody in the Marines adhere to their strict rules and regulations made by the World Government. Some might be quite flexible with the rules, such as Sengoku and Garp, while others ruthlessly follow the rules to the letter, such as Akainu and Ryokugyu. As for Fujitora, he is actually somewhere in the middle. He can be ruthless when it comes to upholding his brand of justice, but he can also ignore the rules in certain situations.

However, if the other Admirals work for the betterment of the Marines and the World Government, Fujitora works for the betterment of the people. Unlike his peers, his justice does not serve the higher power, it serves the common folks. That is why he strongly pushed for the dissolution of the Seven Warlords system. Because although this system is quite beneficial to the World Government, it is extremely harmful for the people. In his mind, the prosperity of the people comes first, and he is willing to do everything in his power to fulfill that task.

He Can Be An Ally To The Outlaws

Just like any other law enforcement forces, be it in real life or fiction, the Marines despise the criminals. After all, it is basically their job to defeat and catch the criminals, most of whom are pirates, and protect the public. So it goes without saying that the Admirals, the embodiment of power for the Marine, also share the same sentiments when it comes to the outlaws.

That being said, there are also people who think and act in a much more objective way when it comes to dealing with the outlaws. They don’t see the pirates as criminals just because they are a pirate. They judge the characters and the action of said pirates and act accordingly. These kinds of Marines can be ruthless to those who harm innocent peoples, and they can be rather understanding and even supportive to those who save and protect the people. Fujitora is this kind of Marine.

There’s not many people that have this kind of principle within the ranks of the Marine. Other than Fujitora, the only people that fit this description would be Garp and Coby. They are the kind of people that wouldn’t mind allying themselves with pirates, or even the revolutionary army, and going against the order of the World Government if it means they can save and protect the innocent people.

That is why Fujitora is quite intrigued with the Straw Hat pirates and didn’t mind letting them go from time to time. And that is also why Fujitora purposely let the Revolutionary Army release the slaves from the holy land of Marie Geoise. Because although he is an Admiral of the Marine, he can be an ally of the outlaws when the situation demands it.

What’s The Future of Fujitora in The Marine

One Piece Fujitora Unleashing his gravitational power

Compared to the other two Admirals, namely Kizaru and Ryokugyu, Fujitora is the one who always actively voiced his opinions, questions the fleet admiral’s order, and he would even go as far as critiquing the World Government’s policies if he considers it bad for the people. Furthermore, Fujitora can be quite stubborn and has shown the tendency to disregard a direct order if it doesn’t align with his sense of justice.

These kinds of views and behaviors put the Fleet Admiral Akainu, and also the Five Elders, in a rather precarious position. Because on one hand, there’s no denying that Fujitora is one of the most powerful people within the Marine force, and they certainly need his power to face their ever-growing enemies. But on the other hand, no matter how powerful somebody is, he is pretty much useless if he can’t follow an order. At this point in time, it’s not even an exaggeration to say that Fujitora is a dangerous entity to the World Government, because he has the power and the position to cause disruption from within.

So what does the future look like for Fujitora? Well, at this point in the story, there are only three paths for him going forward. First is to be like Kizaru, and simply do as he’s told. On the contrary, he can follow Aokiji and leave the Marine in order to challenge them directly. The most likely outcome, however, is for everything to remain as it is now. At least until some major world-changing events happened in the story.
