The One Piece story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to follow in Gol D. Roger’s footsteps and become Pirate King. To do so, he must reach Laughtale and claim the fabled One Piece treasure, the contents of which are one of the most important mysteries in the series to date.

Very few people in the One Piece world have information on what this treasure may be, and as it is tied to the truths of the Void Century, the World Government clamps down hard on anyone attempting to discover more. Of course, there is one group who knows everything as before his execution, Gol D. Roger disbanded his crew and set the Roger Pirates free into the world. Since they have already been to Laughtale, they are now in the unique position of possessing the most coveted knowledge of the series, and though fans don’t know much about the location of most of the remaining crew members, some have already been featured at different points in the narrative.

Silvers Rayleigh, The Dark King

Silvers Rayleigh from One Piece

Of the remaining of the One Piece Roger Pirates, Silvers Rayleigh is one of the most infamous. Known as the Dark King, fans were first introduced to him on Sabaody, where he nonchalantly used Advanced Armament Haki to remove his and Kami’s exploding collars. He resides on the Sabaody Arcipelago with Shakky, former empress of Amazon Lily, and as he coats the ships of pirates attempting to enter the New World via Fishman Island, he is always well-informed on upcoming pirate crews to keep an eye on. Though he seems to greatly enjoy his lawless lifestyle in Sabaody, now that the World Government has eliminated the Seven Warlord system and Boa Hancock has lost her protection, him and Shakky have returned to Amazon Lily to safeguard the island.

Once the right hand of Gol D. Roger, this incredibly powerful individual instantly recognized the similarities between Roger and protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, and decided to take Luffy under his wing. He first allowed him to escape Sabaody in a great display of strength, where he single-handedly stopped admiral Kizaru from pursuing the Straw Hats, and bought warlord Kuma time to displace them around the world. Then, after Marineford, he decided to foster Luffy’s strength and trained him during the timeskip, providing him with the much-needed knowledge of Haki and granting him with the necessary tools to succeed in the New World.

Kozuki Oden, Daimyo Of Kuri

Oden Soup in One Piece

Kozuki Oden of the Kozuki Family was introduced in the One Piece Wano Arc. Daimyo of the Kuri Region and leader of his loyal retainers The Nine Scabbards, he followed his dreams to sail the world aboard Whitebeard’s ship. During these travels he met his wife Toki, and fathered Momonosuke and Hiyori who were both of great relevance to the narrative during the raid on Onigashima. Given his ties to Wano’s Kozuki clan, he was able to read the ancient script on the Poneglyphs, and when this skill led Gol D. Roger to offer to let him join the Roger Pirates, he accepted so that he could learn more about his family’s history.

Having left his wife and children at Wano whilst there to read a Red Poneglyph, he returns after the Roger Pirates’ dissolution. It is upon his arrival that he discovers the events that led Orochi Kurozumi and Kaidou to take over Wano, and upon confronting Orochi, he proves his loyalty to the people of Wano by accepting to ridicule himself in exchange for their safety and freedom. Of course, Orochi didn’t respect his side of the bargain, so Oden decides to confront him and Kaidou in the legendary battle that lead to Kaidou’s first ever injury. However, foul play leads to his defeat, and in a great display of strength, Oden was finally executed after allowing his retainers to live by surviving boiling oil for an hour.

Crocus, Doctor Of The Roger Pirates

Crocus One Piece

When the Straw Hats finally approach the Grand Line through Reverse Mountain, they are swallowed by the Great Whale Laboon. To their surprise, in her stomach they find not their demise, but Crocus, a doctor acting as Laboon’s caretaker. Though he was a lighthouse keeper for most of his life, he had spent three years with the Roger Pirates as the only person capable of relieving Roger’s mysterious disease, and now uses his medical expertise to cure the injuries Laboon sustained by smashing her head against the rocks before making her promise to Luffy. This is the first Roger Pirate fans are introduced to in the One Piece narrative, and much like Raleigh, upon noticing Luffy’s similarities to Gol D. Roger he decides to help the Straw Hats and gifts Nami the log pose, allowing them to sail the Grand Line.

Buggy and Shanks, The Cabin Boys

Young Shanks & Buggy As Roger's Apprentices In One Piece

Buggy and Shanks were both cabin boys of the Roger Pirates, and though not officially part of the crew, they too have come a long way. Due to Buggy’s sudden illness and Shanks’ decision to keep him company, they were unable to reach Laughtale with the rest of the Roger Pirates, and they are now working hard to rectify that. In the current One Piece world, both hold the title of Emperor of The Sea, and both are contenders in the race to become Pirate King. Of course, Buggy’s title of Yonko is in name alone since he is merely a figurehead for the Cross Guild, but in the public eye they both hold the same status and due to him working for Crocodile and Mihawk, he surprisingly stands a chance.

Though the whereabouts of the other Roger Pirates are unknown, fans hope that as the One Piece narrative enters its endgame, more will be introduced. Of the remaining, the community is particularly interested in Gaban, who, alongside Raleigh and Roger, was part of the Roger Pirates equivalent of the Straw Hats Monster Trio. As Crocus was met at the beginning of the Grand Line and Raleigh was met in the middle, a popular theory states that another Roger Pirate member will be waiting at the end, so fans are hopeful that this means that Gaban will finally be introduced at Laughtale.

One Piece is now available to stream on Prime Video.
