Story Arc

Loguetown Arc

Originally known as the 'Freedom Fighters', the Revolutionary Army is a faction that consists of individuals from all over the world that are brought together under the hope of overthrowing the World Government. In fact, of all the anti-World Government organizations in the series, it is the Revolutionary Army that acts as the antithesis of the evil institution, since it is the biggest threat to it.

The Army is particularly against the Celestial Dragons, the Nobles of One Piece, who are debaucherous, vindictive, and evil people who seek to benefit the most from the corruption in the world. These people place themselves on a higher level than regular people since they have descended from the leaders of the 20 nations that came together to defeat the Great Kingdom 800 years ago.

At this year's reverie, we'll finally... declare war, right? Against the Celestial Dragons.

The Army, as an organization, owes its creation to a single man; Monkey D. Dragon. Dragon started off as a Marine in the footsteps of his father, but upon becoming disillusioned with the Navy due to injustice within its ranks and the subjugation of people around the world, he defected and founded a group known simply as the Freedom Fighters. Later on, he met others with similar ideals to overthrow the World Government, namely Emporio Ivankov and Bartholomew Kuma. With them, the Revolutionary Army was officially created, with these 3 being credited as co-founders.

Though Dragon always had a personal hatred of war, he eventually grew the Revolutionary Army to such a formidable size that it now exists as the biggest threat to the World Government. Though it is an independent militia, the Army is extremely well-provisioned and has an incredible number of recruits within its ranks, as they are usually slaves who have been freed from the Celestial Dragons or unjust rulers in their kingdoms/islands.

Notable Members Of The Revolutionary Army

The Commanders of the Revolutionary Army Liberate a Kingdom in One Piece

Like any successful organization, the Revolutionary Army would be nowhere if it didn't have a good structure. Though there are innumerable members from all across the world, a few stand out as the top brass, commanding many people and ships under them by having the Army broken up into different sections.

Despite the incredible impact these attacks can have, none of them have ever conclusively ended a major battle in One Piece.

Supreme Commander: Monkey D. Dragon

Monkey D. Dragon from One Piece

Dragon is the person that the entirety of the Army can trace its roots back to. Forming the Freedom Fighters after defecting from the Marines, Dragon eventually led many campaigns and freed many people under this banner, something which eventually allowed his path to cross with Ivankov and Kuma to form the Revolutionary Army proper. Dragon is the one behind the major plans of the organization and has been branded as the 'World's Worst Criminal'.

Chief of Staff: Sabo

Sabo

Sabo was originally one of Luffy's childhood best friends alongside Ace. They spent much of their early lives together in the Goa Kingdom, but it was eventually found out that Sabo was the son of a Noble family, which led to him trying to escape the island to run away from his past. After seemingly being killed by a Celestial Dragon, Sabo was rescued by the Revolutionary Army and, over the years, has climbed up the ranks to be one of the leading members of the organization.

Commander of the G Army: Emporio Ivankov

ivankov

One of the founding members of the Revolutionary Army as it is known today, Ivankov is one of its most staunch supporters and believers of its message. His first introduction into the story came in the Impel Down arc, where he assists Luffy in escaping the prison, all while being completely sure that Dragon and the rest of the Army had not abandoned him. He also leads the G Army, the most powerful force of the revolutionaries that covers all of the Grand Line.

Bartholomew Kuma

Though he does not hold a formal position within the Army like the others, Bartholomew Kuma is one of its most central characters, and also one of the 3 co-founders. He would later become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and would seemingly help the World Government, but this was all just a cover-up as he had been allied with the Revolutionary Army from the start.
