The History of the Kage Kage no Mi

Gecko Moria

The Kage Kage no Mi was eaten by the former Warlord of the Sea, Gecko Moria. Moria obtained this Devil Fruit at some point before he became a Warlord, likely during his pirating days. The details of how Moria acquired the fruit are unknown, as is the case with most Devil Fruits in One Piece. However, it's speculated that he might have obtained it through purchase, theft, or by chance encounter. The Kage Kage no Mi has many abilities, such as Shadow Manipulation, Shadow Asgard, and the creation of zombies.

The primary ability of the Kage Kage no Mi is the power to manipulate shadows. This includes extracting the shadows of living beings and objects, storing them, and then controlling them at will. The shadows can be used for various purposes, including combat, reconnaissance, and manipulation. One of Moria's signature techniques, Shadow Asgard, allows him to project his shadow to create a massive, humanoid entity known as Doppelman. This giant shadow can mimic Moria's movements and abilities, effectively serving as a powerful ally in battle. Gecko Moria possesses the ability to imbue corpses with shadows, effectively reanimating them as obedient zombies under his control. This unique ability has allowed Moria to amass a formidable crew of undead fighters, known as his "Thriller Bark Pirates".

The Kage Kage no Mi's Role in One Piece

Gecko

Gecko Moria's pre-time skip exploits with the Kage Kage no Mi on Thriller Bark and in the Battle of Marineford, along with his mysterious post-timeskip endeavors, highlight the formidable capabilities of the Kage Kage no Mi. The Kage Kage no Mi, wielded by Gecko Moria, serves as a central plot device as Moria uses his Devil Fruit powers to create an army of zombies and wreak havoc on Thriller Bark. The Straw Hat Pirates confront Moria, leading to an epic battle that ultimately ends with Moria's defeat and the cessation of his schemes. During the Marineford Arc, Gecko Moria participates in the Battle of Marineford on the side of the Marines. He utilizes his Kage Kage no Mi abilities to create chaos and confusion on the battlefield.

However, Moria ultimately suffers defeat at the hands of Bartholomew Kuma, marking a significant moment in the arc. Following the timeskip, the whereabouts and activities of Gecko Moria remain largely unknown. However, his Kage Kage no Mi continues to hold significance in the world of One Piece due to its unique and formidable powers. Rumors suggest Moria is alive and hiding in the New World, and he is later seen rampaging on Blackbeard's island during the Wano Country Saga.

After the end of the war, he was stripped of his title and was to be eliminated by Donquixote Doflamingo, but he managed to escape into the New World. Vegapunk later cloned Moria as one of the Seraphim to replace the Warlords. Two years after the war, he attacked the Blackbeard Pirates on Hachinosu, only to be imprisoned, but he was assumed to be rescued by Perona with the help of Koby later on.

One Piece is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
