Time and again, the Five Elders have been highlighting the fact that they do not want any harm to come to the Mother Flame or the powerplant that produces it in the first place. Even if it comes at the cost of the entire world finding out about the existence of Joy Boy and some secrets about the World Government, they would rather the Mother Flame be intact. This implies that the existence of this power source is absolutely huge. Oda revealed the Mother Flame to be a tiny flame kept in a water tank in One Piece chapter 114. Immediately upon looking at it, one could tell that this flame was somewhat similar to the flame found on the backs of the Lunarians, which means that there might be an interesting connection there.

Is The Mother Flame The Source Of Lunarian Power?

Undoubtedly, when it comes to appearance, the Mother Flame and the flame on the back of the Lunarians look very similar. This explains that the Mother Flame was used in the Ancient Kingdom and that these people utilized this flame as their power source. At the same time, fans also know that before this era, there existed Lunarians. This is confirmed by Whitebeard, who said that the Lunarians were the Gods of the world and sat atop the Red Line, where Marijoa currently is. This means that before the war ended, the ones who actually sat at the top of the world were the Lunarians.

Coming over to the powers of the Lunarians themselves, fans know that they hold special abilities up their sleeve. The Lunarians might just be winged races, like the Shandians, the Birkans, and the Skypieans. However, they are different in that they possess a flame on their backs which gives them invincibility as long as it is active. Essentially, even the most extreme conditions cannot kill the Lunarians while this flame is active. Their bodies are impenetrable, even by the strongest of attacks, and even explosions cannot scratch them. This is a near invincibility only lasts as long as the flame keeps burning. While the flame burns, the likes of the Lunarians cannot be defeated.

Fans have seen this firsthand in Zoro's battle against King, where he only triumphed after King turned his flames off. Similarly, the Mother Flame itself can be used to create nukes, which, once again, goes to show that it has incredible firepower. Both the flames on the Lunarian back and the flame that is inside the tank in Egghead right now hold special properties. On top of that, the Seraphims that Vegapunk created all have a unique prefix of “S-.” Similarly, the Mother Flame itself has this prefix as well, as it reads “S-108.” There is definitely a link between the Lunarians and the Mother Flame that fans saw in the previous chapter.

Coming over to the extinction of the race, it is entirely possible that the Lunarians derived their power from this Mother Flame long ago and that the destruction of Mother Flame that existed back then eventually led to them thinning out and then dying. The Lunarians might have been the ones responsible for the creation of the Mother Flame long ago, and fans already know that this is a big possibility, because they worked closely with the Ancient Kingdom and Joy Boy. This is confirmed by the fact that King himself was waiting for Joy Boy's return. Of course, then the question arises as to how the Ancient Kingdom created this Mother Flame in the first place, and how Vegapunk did it centuries later. The answer can only be provided by the genius scientist Vegapunk in the upcoming chapters of One Piece.

Of course, all this is conjecture at the moment, but Oda has carefully placed clues in his story that hint at a strong connection between those of the Lunarians, who ruled as the Gods of the world, and the Mother Flame, a power source worthy of the Gods of the world. Both of these flames are very special and possess properties, unlike any other ability. The power to survive in any environment, no matter what, and the ability to produce undying energy is certainly linked closer than one would think.
