The God Valley Incident is one of the biggest events to have ever taken place in the history of the One Piece world. This event occurred 38 years ago on the island of God Valley in the West Blue. Oda first teased this incident during the Wano Arc and left most of the details unexplained. However, thanks to the current flashback in One Piece, fans got a proper look at the incident that took place on the island of God Valley.

While the entire God Valley Incident was not described by Oda in his previous chapter, it was more than enough to get the fans excited and, at the very least, give them some context as to what happened on this island. At the same time, Oda also teased another major battle that happened on another island, even before the God Valley Incident took place.

The God Valley Incident, 38 Years Ago

38 years ago, the Celestial Dragons of the One Piece world descended down to God Valley. God Valley was revealed to be an island situated in the West Blue and one that was unaffiliated with the World Government. This made it a target for the Native Hunting Games of Celestial Dragons which are only held on unaffiliated islands. Essentially, these games see the Celestial Dragons turn the entire population of a particular island into targets for extermination. Once they cleanse the entire island of their population, the island is then absorbed by the World Government and made their very own territory.

To make this as sick as possible, the Celestial Dragons turned the entire thing into a game and started hunting them down. Whoever hunted down the most targets got the most points and, consequently, won the best rewards. On the island of God Valley, these rewards were two powerful Devil Fruits, one believed to be the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryuu, and the other being the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi. Information on these powerful Devil Fruits leaked to the outside world and many pirate crews, including the Rocks Pirates, made it to God Valley.

At the same time, the Roger Pirates also came to God Valley to confront the Rocks Pirates. Furthermore, Garp came to God Valley to confront Roger. There were different agendas at play here in God Valley and all that led to the cataclysmic event that was later lost to the annals of history. Unfortunately, the major battles that took place in God Valley on that fateful day were not revealed to the fans. Instead, Oda teased even more battles on this island and one particular clash took place before the events of the God Valley Incident would have been absolutely humongous.

The Roger Pirates Vs The Rocks Pirates, 39 Years Ago

It came as a shock to many fans when Oda teased another major battle in the God Valley flashback that took place before the God Valley Incident. This battle was fought between the Roger Pirates and the Rocks Pirates. It is also believed that this battle didn't take place that long ago. In fact, this clash happened one year prior to the God Valley Incident. The first person to bring this battle up was none other than the future Pirate King, Roger. Roger mentioned that he felt awful for an entire year and this is likely due to the fact that the outcome of the previous battle was not one that he desired.

Meanwhile, Gloriosa, another powerful member of the Rocks Pirates also mentioned that she was looking to settle the score and end this battle for good. This means that there was quite a lot of bad blood between the Roger Pirates and the Rocks Pirates and that they kept clashing on multiple occasions, possibly. Furthermore, Kaido also seems to have some sort of grudge against Roger, likely stemming from their previous battle. Quite a few things here imply that the Roger Pirates ended up fighting against the Rocks Pirates, and very little is known about this fight. However, it is possible that Oda will illustrate this clash in more detail later down the line, otherwise, it would be redundant to even introduce it at this point in the story.

That said, fans were incredibly excited to see details of this clash being brought up and it could end up being one of the very best fights seen in the entirety of One Piece.

Roger Vs Rocks

One fight that fans are absolutely sure happened in this large battle was the clash between Roger and Rocks. Roger was the first person who mentioned that he felt awful for an entire year and now was his chance to set that right. This means that he was actively looking for Rocks after the end of their fight. Furthermore, Gaban, the left-hand man of Roger, made it quite clear that his captain did not get to keep the opposition captain to himself this time around. This suggests that Roger single-handedly fought Rocks in their previous battle. Gaban and possibly even Rayleigh, wanted a piece of Rocks for himself. This is essentially a confirmation that Roger vs Rocks happened one year before the God Valley Incident.

Rocks could still be alive in One Piece.

Judging by the fact that this fight left a sour taste in Roger's mouth, it can be assumed that the victor of this fight was none other than Rocks and Roger was soundly defeated. As to how exactly that happened, fans have no idea just yet. This is also backed up by the statement made by Sengoku, which clearly says that Rocks was the toughest adversary that Roger ever faced in his life, even more difficult than Whitebeard. Given that he possibly lost to Rocks, this makes a lot of sense. It also makes a lot of sense as to why Roger then required Garp's help in order to defeat Rocks. Alone, he would have just lost the battle one more time.

Kaido's Defeat To Roger

Kaido Vs Roger God Valley One Piece

Another major clash that took place in the One Piece world nearly 39 years ago was the battle between Roger and Kaido. Kaido was one of the Pirates who had better memories of the battle fought between Roger Pirates and the Rocks Pirates. Kaido especially talked about Roger and implied that he was the one pirate that he would like to get revenge on. This suggests that Roger was the one who vanquished Kaido a year prior to the God Valley Incident. This should not come as a surprise to any fan, given that Kaido was still merely an apprentice at this point and had not even eaten his Devil Fruit. He was strong but he was certainly not anywhere close to the strongest in the world of One Piece.

It is possible that Kaido was blown away by Roger before he clashed with Rocks, similar to how he blew away Oden before fighting against Whitebeard in their last battle. It is unknown as to what exactly happened in this fight and how it concluded and fans can only hope that Oda reveals more information about it later down the line.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1097, is set to be November 5, 2023.
