One Piece: Oda Reveals A New Supreme Grade Sword In SBS Vol 109

Oda reveals a new Supreme Grade Sword. This sword, named Yakuza Kasen, belongs to none other than Admiral Fujitora.

With One Piece volume 109, Oda has now revealed quite a lot of exciting details in the story once again, and this time around, he has also touched upon the subjects of Ace rejecting the offer to become a Shichibukai in the past. More specifically, he talked about the guy that Ace defeated to be offered this position in the first place.

The Shichibukai Defeated By Ace

Ace Defeated Hanafuda, A Former Warlord In One Piece

Ace was a shining pirate in the One Piece world right from the moment he set sail. He was destined for greatness, and while much of that is down to the fact that he was Roger's own son, there is also the fact that Ace had his own ambitions and his own goals to become the person that he wanted to be. Ace was destined for glory right from the get-go, and fans got a proper display of that later down the line in One Piece. Once Ace created the Spade Pirates, he went on many incredible journeys. From the East Blue, all the way to the Paradise half of the Grand Line, and eventually the New World, Ace embarked on many incredible adventures that fans would have loved to see animated at some point. Regardless, fans do know quite a lot about Ace's journey now, and much of that is down to the Ace novel, and all the small bits that Oda has introduced in his story. In One Piece chapter 1100, Oda mentioned something very intriguing during the Kuma flashback.

Back then, it was confirmed that Ace was making waves in the New World and that he had already defeated a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. This made Ace one to watch out for, and given that he defeated such a powerful individual who was allied with the World Government, they were looking for replacements for this person as well. Of course, eventually, Kuma ended up becoming a Warlord, filling the space in the warlord's stead. This position was likely also offered to Ace, and this is because fans know already that Ace rejected the offer of becoming a Shichibukai. This is simply down to the fact that his sights were set that much higher and that he wanted to conquer much more than just becoming a Warlord and a lap dog of the Government. This also makes quite a lot of sense, given that Ace knew how the Government operated, having grown up in the Goa Kingdom.

Hanafuda, The King Of Lizards

In One Piece SBS Volume 109, Oda revealed quite a lot of exciting bits of information about the Shichibukai that Ace defeated and this person was none other than Hanafuda. This is a completely new character that fans have never seen or heard about in the story before. This character looks absolutely menacing, and here is what Oda had to say about him:

Question: In Chapter 1100, the Warlord that Ace beat which was being talked about by Kuma and St. Saturn, what was that person like?

Answer: He looks like this. His name is "Hanafuda". His hobby is collecting Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits. On what he's scheming behind this remains unknown up to now. His height is 514 cm. His other name is "King of Lizards”

Quite clearly, Hanafuda looks like a very intriguing personality. His name itself related to a card game, which is quite intriguing, given that he is known to have been a hunter for Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits. This is somewhat related to Kaido’s Beast Pirates, as not only does Kaido's crew follow a card theme, but it also is filled with powerful Zoan users, especially the Ancient Zoans. Perhaps, Hanafuda was somehow linked to Kaido.

Perhaps, this was a completely unique individual with his own reasons for collecting Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits. It is likely that fans will never find out why he wanted these Ancient Zoan devil fruits, as Oda puts himself. However, this person was certainly very exciting, nonetheless.

One Piece: Emet The Iron Giant, Explained

Emet, the Iron Giant, played a huge role in Egghead Island. He has a deep history in One Piece.

The fact that he was offered the position of Shichibukai already ensures that he was very powerful, and just by looking at him, one can tell that he was on a completely different level compared to the average pirate. The fact that Ace actually managed to defeat Hanafuda is very impressive, and this earned him quite a lot of plaudits, a higher bounty, and of course, a lot of attention from the World Government as well.

Will Hanafuda Ever Make An Appearance In One Piece?

It Is Unlikely For Hanafuda To Ever Appear In One Piece

Shichibukai one piece

Of course, fans might be wondering whether Hanafuda will ever make an appearance in One Piece later down the line. The answer to that question is that it is unlikely for him to ever appear in the story. This is because Hanafuda is an irrelevant character in the grand scheme of things. He is never going to make any impact, especially in the Final Saga, when the enemies are much grander and stronger. Hanafuda would have been an exciting addition to the story long ago, but now, it doesn't make much sense to include him. The only way fans will get to see more of him is if Oda incorporates him into a flashback concerning the character of Ace.

Furthermore, fans could also get an anime adaptation of Ace's story, and Hanafuda could be added there. It could then be showcased how exactly Ace defeated him and what he did after. But, overall, despite being a very powerful pirate who likely ruled with great power, Hanafuda was crushed by Portgas D. Ace, which just goes to show his superiority as a pirate.

Portgas D. Ace in One Piece

At the very least, fans got a very cool-looking pirate, who carries a scythe and a mace tied to it, with cyborg hands and a cool mask. This character design would certainly have been absolutely sensational if it were to be incorporated into the main story, but sometimes, things just don't go that way. Perhaps, if Ace does get his very own story extended later down the line, fans will see Hanafuda being incorporated into the story, along with his personality, and his fighting style being revealed as well.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1120, is set to be July 14, 2024.
