The latest chapter of One Piece had a lot of surprises for fans, and the biggest talking point was the confrontation that took place in Amazon Lily between the Kuja Pirates, the Blackbeard Pirates, and the Marines. The Marines were attacking Amazon Lily because they wanted to capture Boa Hancock as she posed an immense threat to the World Government, while the Blackbeard Pirates' hunt for devil fruits had brought them to Boa's kingdom.

The three-way battle between them caused a lot of destruction, and there were many casualties. Only a few people were able to stand their ground in the chaos and one of them was Blackbeard, a Yonko of the Sea. Boa Hancock's strength surprised Koby and Blackbeard, and both of them complimented her. In addition to Boa, another thing that caught the attention of Blackbeard was Seraphim, which is the Navy's replacement for the Shichibukai. As Blackbeard was facing several strong opponents, he had to use a power that he had never used before in One Piece.

Using Armament Haki

Blackbeard uses Haki to defend himself

In almost all of his previous appearances, Blackbeard mainly relied on his devil fruit powers to get the better of his opponent. When he fought against Ace, Blackbeard used his Yami Yami no Mi to overwhelm the Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. Then at Marineford, Blackbeard nullified and stole Whitebeard's power with his devil fruit. After gaining the Gura Gura no Mi, Teach immediately set out to destroy the Marine HQ. To many readers, it seemed that Blackbeard was over-reliant on his devil fruits and would suffer if he had to face an opponent who had mastery over Haki, but in the latest chapter, all those debates finally came to an end. When one of the Seraphim attacked Blackbeard, the latter coated his left arm with Haki to block the attack.

While blocking a sword slash might not seem like an impressive feat, it is important to remember that the Seraphim's previous attack had sliced the mountain in Amazon Lily into half. Naturally, this means the second attack on Blackbeard would have an equal amount of power, so the Yonko would have needed at least Advanced Armament Haki to block the attack. So, if Blackbeard does have Advanced Armament Haki then he could prove to be a nemesis for Luffy in the future. While this may be the first time that Blackbeard has used Armament Haki, he has used Observation Haki many times in the past.

Excellent Observation Haki

Blackbeard and his crew talk about Luffy

Blackbeard is surprisingly a good user of Observation Haki. When Blackbeard was under the impression that Luffy's bounty was only 30 million berries, he told his crew that for a man with such powerful Haki, the bounty was too low. Only a few moments later, Blackbeard saw Luffy's new bounty poster that showed that his new bounty was 100 million berries. This is the first time that Blackbeard was seen using any kind of Haki.

Blackbeard showed his usage of Observation Haki once again when he invaded Impel Down with the rest of his crew. On their way to the lower levels, Blackbeard met Luffy, who attacked him, but it didn't take long for the Shichibukai to beat Luffy. However, Blackbeard did compliment Luffy and told him that his Haki had improved from the last time they had met. In addition to the confirmations in the manga, the vivre cards have also confirmed Blackbeard as the user of both Armament and Observation Haki. Currently, Blackbeard has two types of Haki, so the question is, will he have Conqueror's Haki as well?

The Final Villain

After his altercations with Luffy, the fans realized that Blackbeard will be his final opponent. Luffy and Blackbeard are different, yet they do share some common opinions, which makes their rivalry quite interesting. Luffy has got a score to settle with Blackbeard as the latter was responsible for Ace being captured by the Marines. Luffy would want to avenge the death of his brother, who sacrificed his life to save him. Considering Blackbeard is the final villain in the series, it would make sense for him to have all three types of Haki. There are a few good reasons for this.

First, almost all of Luffy's opponents in the New World have had all three types of Haki- Charlotte Katakuri, Big Mom, Kaido, and Donquixote Doflamingo. It would be underwhelming if the final villain only had two types of Haki while the ones who appeared before him had all three types. Second, Blackbeard is a very ambitious man, who is willing to go to any lengths to ensure that he reaches his goal. A character with huge ambition and willpower is bound to have Conqueror's Haki.

Finally, Blackbeard is a descendant of the D. clan, and so far anyone who is connected with the mysterious clan has had Conqueror's Haki. All these things point to Blackbeard having Conqueror's Haki. Blackbeard will be making many more appearances in the series and the readers can expect Oda to unravel more mysteries about him. Needless to say, the final saga of One Piece is going to be intense and there is a strong possibility that Luffy vs Blackbeard will be the final fight in the series.
