5 Similarities To The Pirate King

Luffy in One-Piece

Luffy's goal of becoming the Pirate King is not an easy task by any means. To emulate the feat of Gol D. Roger, Luffy would have to do something truly special. At the moment, he is on the right track. Aside from their dream of becoming the Pirate King, Luffy and Roger also share other similarities.

The two of them have the "D" initial in their names, which implies that both of them are descendants of an ancient clan whose existence was wiped from the records. Both Luffy and Roger are well-respected by their allies as well as their enemies. Furthermore, they possess the Voice of All Things and they even wore the same straw hat.

3 Hatred For Cherry Pie

Blackbeard and Luffy at Impel Down

Luffy's fondness for food is ridiculous, and he is not very particular about what he eats as long as he gets to stuff his face with it. He has a voracious appetite and can give other known anime gluttons like Goku, and Toriko, a run for their money. So, it was a surprise when Oda revealed that Luffy disliked one particular food.

Luffy's least favorite food is the cherry pie served in Mock Town for "unknown reasons." His main rival, Blackbeard, on the other hand, loves cherry pie. So, this might be Oda's way of contrasting the two characters or just a possible hint that Blackbeard is indeed Luffy's final opponent.

2 Resemblance To Sunflower

In an SBS, Oda revealed that Luffy resembles the sunflower, which is associated with bringing jubilation. This ties in perfectly with Luffy's devil fruit- Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, who was worshiped by slaves as the Sun God, and they believed that he would liberate them from their miseries.

Just like Nika, Luffy is known for bringing joy to the faces of those oppressed by tyrants. Over the course of the series, Luffy has fought against tough enemies who have harmed his friends in one way or the other.

One Piece Luffy uses Gear Fourth for the first time

Luffy is unquestionably one of the strongest characters in the series, a feat that he has managed to achieve because of his hard work. Before the big reveal about Luffy's devil fruit, he had to train incredibly hard to become more powerful.

In the Wano Country arc, Luffy learned how to master two forms of Haki- Armament and Conqueror's Haki. By refining his control over Haki, Luffy was finally able to damage Kaido and end his rule over Wano. In addition to his exceptional control over Armament Haki and Conqueror's Haki, Luffy can also use Advanced Observation Haki, which allows him to see the future. So far, Luffy is the only known member of the Worst Generation to have successfully mastered the Advanced versions of all three types of Haki.
