Eiichiro Oda's world of One Piece is quite diverse and, over the years, he has introduced several races, many of which have played a key role in the overarching plot of the story. The many races in the One Piece world are linked intrinsically to the secrets of the One Piece and the Void century itself. Fans have seen the likes of Fishman being extremely important to the plot.

At the same time, there are other races that have also played a key role so far in the story, such as the Mink Tribe, who are loyal vassals of the Kozuki Clan. Recently, in the Wano Country arc, fans saw the introduction of yet another extremely important race in the One Piece world called the Lunarian race. While not everything about this race has been revealed to the fans, their importance to the secrets of the story appears to be paramount.

The Gods Of The One Piece World

The Great Kingdom from One Piece

Quite possibly the most important revelation about the Lunarian race is the fact that they were once considered to be the Gods of the One Piece world. This was first mentioned by Whitebeard to his crew once and fans got to see it during the Wano Country arc when Marco, the former First Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, was reminiscing about this event. According to Whitebeard, many centuries ago, real Gods used to exist in the world of One Piece. They resided atop the Red Line and held tremendous power in their possession.

Surprisingly, this race of Lunarians has completely vanished somehow. This has likely got to do with the World Government and their attempted eradication of the Ancient Kingdom and all its allies. This was first hinted at when King, Kaido's All-Star, revealed his face for the very first time. Some members of his own pirate crew claimed that the World Government would offer a sum in excess of 100 million berries to anyone who would give them information on members of the Lunarian race. Evidently, the only reason the Lunarians are extinct today is because of their war against the Government.

The Striking Lunarian Features

Being a godly race, the Lunarians have striking features that set them apart from other races of the One Piece world. In appearance, they are quite similar to Skypeians in that they have wings as well. However, their wings are much bigger in comparison and black in color. At the same time, their wings also seem to be functional. While the Skypeians, Birkans, and Shandians can't fly using their wings, the members of the Lunarian race apparently can. At the same time, other striking features that they possess include white hair and brown skin. These features set them apart from any other race in the One Piece world.

Furthermore, they also carry a giant flame on their back which continues to burn, no matter what. The secrets behind the powers of this race are not yet revealed, however, when fans get a closer look at this race in the past, it is possible that its origins and other secrets will finally be revealed. Dr. Vegapunk, the genius Navy scientist, has created several Seraphim with powers of the Lunarian race. It is possible that they will be the one to explain their origins later on in the story when they make an appearance themselves.

The Power Of The Lunarians

The Lunarian race is incredibly powerful and quite possibly has some of the most dangerous fighters in the One Piece world, as expected of a race that went by the title of Gods. Their black wings allow them to fly at an incredibly fast speed without any apparent exhaustion. At the same time, their bodies are known to be extremely special. According to Queen, the Lunarian race possess bodies that are incredibly durable and can survive in even the most extreme conditions. Even the strongest of attacks don't seem to faze them, which is certainly a great ability to possess. The durability of the Lunarians is such that even Haki-clad powerful attacks don't deal any damage to them. Furthermore, this durability of theirs is linked to the flame that burns on their backs. While this flame is burning, no attack can pierce their tough skin. However, when this flame goes out, their bodies become vulnerable to incoming attacks. In exchange, however, they gain tremendous speed.

Perhaps the greatest ability that the Lunarians possess is one that allows them to manipulate fire at will. Every member of the Lunarian race can create fire instantly from their bodies. This fire can then be used to either coat themselves or to burn others near them. When trained to an extensive degree, their fire abilities can also resemble magma itself, as seen when King fought against Roronoa Zoro. Their powers are such that the World Government led experiments to attain it. By the looks of it, they have succeeded at doing so, as evident with the creation of the Seraphim. The Lunarian race is heavily linked to the secrets of the Void Century and the Great War that was once fought in the One Piece world. With the story now in its last Saga, fans should expect to see more of their kind and many other secrets being revealed in time.
