The first season of Netflix's One Piece Live Action adapted the vast majority of the East Blue Saga. Fans know that this saga sees Luffy set sail, slowly gather the most important members of his crew, and sail towards the Grand Line. It also introduces fans to several powerful pirates, such as the likes of Don Krieg, Arlong, Buggy, and Kuro, among others. The first season of Netflix's One Piece Live Action also did a great job of teasing future enemies for Luffy and the Straw Hats. One particular group that was mentioned were the Seven Warlords of the Sea and they are sure to come up in the following season of the show.

This article will contain spoilers from the manga.

The Great Age Of Piracy

Gol D Roger execution one piece live action

The Great Age of Piracy is the current timeline in the One Piece world which was triggered by none other than the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. Before being executed, Roger made it known that he had hidden the One Piece in one place. He asked all the people gathered around his execution to go ahead, find the treasure, and claim the One Piece for themselves. This ushered in a new age where piracy became very common. There was an influx of pirates all across the seas and these pirates were incredibly difficult for the Navy to contain. Although the powerful Navy fighters, such as Vice Admiral Garp, and Sengoku, among others, certainly did their jobs and tried to curtail the freedom of these pirates, it became increasingly difficult to contain them since their numbers were only growing.

Naturally, things got difficult for the World Government and, because of that, they had to come up with unique ways to deal with the growing influence of pirates across the seas. While most of the pirates were easy to deal with, Roger also inspired a certain crop of pirates who were quite capable and strong enough to rule the seas. These pirates came to be known as the Emperors of the Sea and they ruled over a massive chunk of the Grand Line itself. Worried that the balance of the world would be destroyed, the World Government came up with the plan to create the Seven Warlords of the Sea and that is precisely what fans saw being mentioned in the first season of the One Piece Live Action.

The Seven Warlords of the Sea

The Seven Warlords of the Sea are pirates who fight against pirates. Essentially, these pirates set out to sea with the same goal as all the others. They either want wealth, fame, or power. A good portion of them also aimed for the One Piece and their strength was certainly enough to back those claims. Instead of seeing them as a threat, the World Government saw them as potential allies. Instead of capturing them, the World Government sent them an invitation to join their ranks. While these pirates wouldn't directly be associated with the Navy or the Government, they would, in a certain way, be affiliated with them.

These pirates would gain the freedom to do whatever they wanted on the seas and would not have the Navy chasing after them. Essentially, they could commit acts of piracy in broad daylight without anyone batting an eye. In return, however, they would help the World Government in their times of need. This also meant that these pirates were to be used to curtail the Great Age of Piracy itself. As the number of pirates was growing, these 7 Warlords of the Sea were deployed to ensure that the smaller pirates know their place and get discouraged from chasing grand dreams, such as finding the One Piece and becoming the Pirate King.

As is quite evident by the name itself, these Warlords of the Sea are seven in number and they need to be maintained for the power balance of the One Piece world to stay stable at all times. As the story progresses, fans will only get to see more of them and understand better as to why these powerful pirates exist.

Warlords Introduced So Far

While fans did not get to see all of the Seven Warlords of the Sea in Netflix's One Piece Live Action Season 1, they did get to see one of them in particular and hear the name of yet another one of them. During the Baratie arc of the One Piece Live Action series, fans see Garp making a call to a very interesting person going by the name of Dracule Mihawk.

Mihawk is revealed to the fans to be the World's Strongest Swordsman and that evidently confirms his status as one of the strongest in the entire world. In the Grand Line, Mihawk is seen fighting against Don Krieg and his Krieg Pirates. That is precisely what the job of a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea is. These pirates are deployed against pirates and used to destroy their dreams. Mihawk does his job effortlessly and is contacted by Garp while he is fighting.

He is asked to go to Luffy in the East Blue and take him out. This becomes Mihawk's reason to visit the East Blue, specifically, the ocean-going restaurant, Baratie. There, he ends up fighting against Zoro, the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates. Zoro impresses Mihawk quite a lot and so does Luffy. Instead of taking them to justice, Mihawk spares them and believes that these pirates will only grow bigger in the future.

Another member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea that the fans got to hear about in the first season of the One Piece Live Action series is none other than Jinbe. Fans of the source material know that Jinbe is a very important character and one who goes on to play a crucial role as the story moves forward. In the One Piece Live Action series, it is Nezumi who mentions Jinbe for the very first time to Arlong when accused of being racist. It is revealed to the fans that Jinbe is a Fishman and also one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. To Arlong, however, Jinbe is a traitor to Fishmankind since he works for the Government and the Government discriminates heavily against the Fishmen and the Merfolk. Arlong absolutely hates Jinbe and there is certainly a deep history there which fans will get to explore in the future of the story.

The Future Of The Seven Warlords of the Sea

Quite evidently, the Seven Warlords of the Sea are going to be very important moving forward in One Piece. These pirates have already made quite an impression in the One Piece Live Action series and their influence is only going to grow from here. The vast majority of these pirates are incredibly powerful and capable enough to contend for the One Piece. As such, it only makes sense that most of them are active in the Grand Line, which is the mightiest of oceans in the One Piece world. The One Piece lies on some island in the Grand Line and most of these pirates are actively trying to find it in one way or another.

Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates are headed to the Grand Line, as was confirmed at the very end of the first season of the One Piece Live Action series. Given that they will enter this treacherous sea very soon, it is only natural for them to be exposed to these powerful pirates. The East Blue was rather easy for the Straw Hat Pirates to navigate. However, the Grand Line is a different monster altogether. Not only is it difficult to navigate in literal terms, but it is also nearly impossible to get across due to the pirates that plague this sea. The Grand Line is called the pirate graveyard for a reason and only a handful can manage to survive there. Luffy and his group will most certainly encounter the Seven Warlords of the Sea on this stretch of ocean. In fact, the very next Saga of One Piece in the live action is specifically going to take focus and throw it on one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, going by the name of Mr. 0.

Of course, to see that happen, fans will have to wait quite a bit as One Piece Live Action season 2 will take quite some time to film and then to be released. Nonetheless, fans are in for a great ride once the crew enters the Grand Line and encounters the wrath of this ocean, along with mighty pirates who make up the Seven Warlords of the Sea. One Piece Live Action can only get better from here onwards as the story enters some of its most exciting arcs and introduces some mighty characters.

One Piece Live Action is available to watch on Netflix.
