Trafalgar Law is one of the members of One Piece's Worst Generation and an incredibly powerful pirate who hails from the North Blue. As the captain of the Heart Pirates, Law amassed a massive bounty of 200 million berries before the two-year timeskip and since then he's only gone from strength to strength. In the New World, Law has established himself as a key player of the New Generation. In fact, Law was the trigger to everything that's happening in Wano Country currently.

One of the biggest talking points about Trafalgar Law is certainly his Devil Fruit ability. Law was fed the Ope Ope no Mi at a very young age and this fruit gave him the power to create large spherical ROOMs within which everything was his to control, from the terrain to the people inside it. While the Devil Fruit's basic power in itself is quite frightening, it is the awakening of the Ope Ope no Mi that makes him much more dangerous.

How Trafalgar Law Awakened The Ope Ope no Mi

One Piece Trafalgar Law using Ope Ope no Mi

The Ope Ope no Mi is quite an overpowered Devil Fruit on its own. During One Piece's Punk Hazard arc, fans got to see how incredible this fruit really was when Law took on the G5 unit all by himself and ended up defeating every single one of them without even breaking a sweat. In the Dressrosa arc, his abilities were countered well by Donquixote Doflamingo, however, despite that, Law had more than a few tricks up his sleeve, such as Gamma Knife. Strangely enough, by Dressrosa, the Ope Ope no Mi hadn't awakened or Law would definitely have used its powers on Doflamingo, his worst enemy. Law waited 13 years to avenge Corazon and only relied on Luffy to take Doflamingo down as a last resort, meaning the fruit likely hadn't awakened at the moment.

However, sometime after this arc, Law's Devil Fruit powers awakened and his strength multiplied by several times. As mentioned by Donquixote Doflamingo, awakening is a special stage that only a handful of Devil Fruit users manage to unlock. However, once achieved, it completely alters the properties of the Devil Fruit and makes them much more powerful. By the Wano Country arc, Law's Ope Ope no Mi had awakened as he had a fairly decent idea of what he could and couldn't do in his fight against the Yonko, Big Mom.

How Ope Ope no Mi's Awakening Works

Trafalgar Law Awakening

Ope Ope no Mi's awakening powers can be quite confusing, however, they're actually quite simple and operate within the realms of the fruit. Instead of creating ROOMs to operate within a large area, Law uses a similar sphere of power, called KROOM on Kikoku, his cursed sword. By coating the sword in KROOM, Law is able to grant it spatial manipulation, just like ROOM does around him. The very first technique that Law uses then is called "Anesthesia" and this technique grants spatial phasing to his sword, allowing it to phase through anything without even making a wound or creating an incision.

Expectedly, awakening gives Law the ability to operate on anyone from within their bodies, making it much easier for him, as a doctor. At the same time, it also allows Law to phase through whatever tough defense his enemies have and attack them from the inside. After piercing their bodies with Kikoku, Law then uses his powerful awakened abilities, such as Shock Wille. Shock Wille is a powerful electric shock that fries the target from the inside and cannot be defended against by any means. When Law deployed it against Big Mom, she bled for the very first time in the entire story, which just goes to show how impressive it truly is.

While Shock Wille does look quite similar to Gamma Knife, their application is quite different as Gamma Knife enters the body from the outside ignoring the defensive barriers while Shock Wille is unleashed from the inside, making it much more lethal. When used for the second time, Law made Big Mom bleed profusely and even more importantly, managed to break her arm and her ribs with his powerful shockwave. Often Law's Kikoku is seen extending in size when he uses his awakening, and while that may be confusing, it makes perfect sense as KROOM, just like ROOM, grants the power of spatial manipulation. Just like Law can control his ROOM generally, KROOM allows him to expand on the size of the objects that it coats.

Shock Wille itself is quite dangerous but Law's strongest technique is much scarier and, once again, relies on the usage of "Anesthesia" to allow his blade to phase through his target. This time, however, he puts much more energy into it, making the sword extend for miles. When Law used it on Onigashima, he pierced right through the entire island, all the way down to Wano Country. Shockingly, his sword kept going through the ground until Law was satisfied. Law then unleashes a tremendous shockwave called "Puncture Wille," which was so powerful that it made Big Mom flail about helplessly. Onigashima itself had a giant hole in ripped it and, at the same time, Wano Country's mainland saw the formation of a giant crater.

It goes without saying that the Ope Ope no Mi awakening is quite scary and at the same time, it is the strongest awakening that the fans have seen so far. It makes Law one of the strongest characters in the entire story but at the same time, the price to pay for his power is huge, and it completely drains him. With time, however, Law will get a better grasp over his awakening, making him even more dangerous than he already is.
