Jewelry Bonney is one of the members of the Worst Generation in One Piece. Introduced to the fans during the Sabaody Archipelago arc, along with the other members of the Supernova, Bonney was immediately recognized as a major threat on the seas of the One Piece world. As the story progressed, Bonney only grew stronger and, currently, in the Egghead island arc of the story, Bonney holds tremendous significance.

Her appearances after the time skip have been rather limited. Fans saw her in Mariejois, where she was seen shedding a tear for Bartholomew Kuma. Immediately, it was recognized that the two are somehow connected, however, the truth of the matter was revealed only recently in the story.

The Sorbet Kingdom

Bartholomew Kuma with a serious look

Bonney is yet to have had a story revealed properly by Oda. However, readers already know that she is from the South Blue, specifically from the Sorbet Kingdom. This bit of information about her was revealed to the fans during the Reverie arc, where she posed as the Queen Dowager Connie of this country. Soon after, she came across Bartholomew Kuma and shed a tear, lamenting his condition as a slave of the Celestial Dragons. Bonney was completely aware of the fate that had been forced upon Kuma, meaning she had full information about him having turned into a cyborg. It has also been revealed in the story that Sorbet Kingdom was once ruled by none other than Bartholomew Kuma.

Perhaps, this also ties to his epithet of the Tyrant. It is possible that Kuma ruled this kingdom with tyranny. As mentioned before, there is no crime that Kuma hasn't committed in his pirate life, however, this goes completely against the image of Kuma that the Revolutionary Army have in their heads, as was evident from the fact that Sabo called them a kind and gentle person. Bonney also strongly believes this. Nonetheless, Kuma eventually joined the Revolutionary Army and gave up his Royal status in the process. At some point, he went on to become a member of the Shichibukai and enrolled himself in the Pacifista Project, probably being turned into a cyborg by Dr. Vegapunk.

Kuma And The Pacifista Project

Perhaps the biggest plot point that revolves around Kuma's character is him being turned into a cyborg by the Navy. At some point in his life, Kuma enrolled in the Pacifista Project which was being led by Dr. Vegapunk, the genius scientist of the Navy. Little by little, he was turned into a cyborg much stronger than Franky. Being a human weapon, Kuma was slowly sacrificing his humanity for the sake of the Government. Eventually, he stopped being himself and was turned into a weapon that could neither think nor act for himself.

Fans' first glimpse of Kuma as a Pacifista came during the Thriller Bark arc, where he ambushed the Straw Hat Pirates following the defeat of Gecko Moria. He then went on to beat the entire crew, however, thanks to Zoro's sacrifice, he spared their lives. In the Paramount War, Kuma was once again present, as was the Pacifica army of the Navy. Towards the end of the arc, Bonney was seen shedding a tear and went to the New World seeking revenge for how Kuma was treated. Kuma's character is also deeply tied to the Seraphim. It is thanks to the research carried out on his body that the Seraphim today are a reality. By upgrading on the Pacifista, Vegapunk managed to create human weapons with bodies of the form of Shichibukai and the DNA of the Lunarian race. Their powers are incredible and it goes without saying that Kuma, being a former member of the group, also has one made for him.

Bonney And Vegapunk

In the Egghead Island arc of One Piece, Bonney finally reveals that she is the daughter of Bartholomew Kuma, making her the princess of Sorbet Kingdom. Previously, fans saw her pose as the Dowager Queen of this country which led many people to believe that she might actually be Kuma's mother, or possibly even wife, and was altering her age with Devil Fruit powers to appear younger. With chapter 1062, Oda all but confirmed that Bonney is Kuma's biological child and the reason she headed out to the New World after the Summit War was to seek Vegapunk and have him help her father. In the Egghead Island arc, Bonney's goal is to get to Vegapunk and ask him why he turned Kuma into a cyborg. Most certainly, she would also likely ask for his help in order to turn Kuma back into the person that he once was.

Depending on how he answers her questions, Bonney will either attempt to kill him or spare his life. Oda has specifically involved Bonney in the final arc of One Piece, especially one where the Revolutionary Army, Vegapunk, and the Straw Hat Pirates are so prevalent. At some point, Bonney is certain to meet with her father and hopefully, help him return to his former state with Vegapunk the Straw Hats' help.
