Highlights

  • One Piece chapter 1089 reveals that the destruction of Lulusia was caused by a weapon created by Vegapunk, not an Ancient Weapon as previously thought. This weapon, known as Mother Flame, has limited power and is not an infinite energy source.
  • It is suggested that Vegapunk based Mother Flame on the Ancient Weapon Uranus, as there are similarities between the two. Mother Flame is a temporary power source, while Uranus may be permanent and potentially require a connection to a human, similar to Poseidon and the Sea Kings.
  • The hole created by Mother Flame in Lulusia is similar to the hole under Enies Lobby, suggesting that both were created by similar weapons. This implies that in the past, someone used Uranus to wipe out a country that stood where Enies Lobby is now located. The World Government may have established Enies Lobby after gaining control over the destroyed area.

One Piece chapter 1089 revealed quite a lot of information to the fans and it was, by far, one of the best buildup chapters that fans have received in quite a while. As most fans know, the Egghead Incident that has been teased for months now is almost here and this only means that the intensity of the manga is going to ramp up by quite a significant margin.

One Piece chapter 1089 also made sure to showcase the state of the world and, one major incident that surprised most fans was the earthquake that shook the entire world 6 days after the destruction of Lulusia. Later on, it was revealed that this earthquake was directly tied to a massive hole that was ripped into the earth where Lulusia once stood.

Motherflame And Lulusia

Lulusia-Kingdom-is-destroyed-1

The Mother Flame was introduced to the fans when Lulusia was utterly destroyed on the orders of Imu. Previously, fans assumed that Lulusia was destroyed using an Ancient Weapon. However, that couldn't have been further from the truth. It was revealed that this kingdom was wiped off the face of the earth using a weapon that was created by Vegapunk. This weapon was developed by Vegapunk and eventually sent to the World Government by York as a part of her plan. To test out the weapon, they used it on the Kingdom of Lulusia and the operation was a success. By the looks of it, however, Mother Flame is not a weapon with an infinite energy source.

This is why this weapon could only be used once and why the World Government still needs York to keep on producing more Mother Flame. When used on Lulusia, fans saw 16 rays being shot down from the sky and a giant explosion engulfing everything, vaporizing the island in the process. 6 days after the incident, the aftermath of this massive explosion was revealed to the fans, and much to the surprise of everyone, there was a massive hole in the sea with a perennial waterfall, similar to the one that fans have previously seen in the story at one particular location. Clearly, while Mother Flame was not an Ancient Weapon itself, it was based on an Ancient Weapon, and with this major reveal, fans can finally start piecing together what exactly this weapon is and how it was used in the past as well.

The Model For Mother Flame

The Aftermath Of The Motherflame one piece 1089

The Mother Flame clearly isn't an ancient weapon. However, it most certainly is based on one. At the very beginning of Egghead Island, Vegapunk talked about an infinite energy source. With this energy, Vegapunk could easily power up even the Iron Giant and, of course, create an ancient weapon, just like Mother Flame. The problem with Mother Flame is that its power is limited and not infinite. However, the limited power that it produces certainly matches ancient weapons. Fans already know that Pluton is sealed under Wano and Vegapunk certainly could not have based Mother Flame on it. Poseidon, on the other hand, is a mermaid who lives under the ocean and certainly does not possess any power similar to Mother Flame.

This only means that Vegapunk has seen the Ancient Weapon Uranus or, at the very least, knows the model for it. It is very much evident that Vega punk has based Mother Flame on Uranus. The only difference between these two would be that Mother Flame is a temporary power but limited energy resources, while Uranus would be permanent and potentially even needing a link to a human, just like Poseidon controls the Sea Kings and Pluton might have some links to Momonosuke.

The Connection To Enies Lobby

Enies Lobby in One Piece

The reason why Mother Flame is surely based on the Ancient Weapon Uranus is that fans have already seen something very similar to what happened to Lulusia at a different point in the One Piece world. During the Water 7 Saga, fans were introduced to Enies Lobby – the main judicial island of the World Government. Enies Lobby seemed like an island that was seemingly standing over a giant hole in the ocean. The water seemed to be indefinitely pouring into the hole from all sides, yet the whole itself never filled. Comparing the hole that was under Enies Lobby to the hole that was created by Mother Flame, it is quite clear to see that these two are very similar and have been created by similar weapons.

This means that in the past, someone used the Ancient Weapon Uranus to wipe out whatever country stood there. When the fans first saw the giant hole under Enies Lobby, it didn't make much sense as to how this hole was even created. Now, fans have the exact idea as to what ended up happening in the past and how the place that once stood there was completely wiped off the face of the earth. Given that this place does not exist anymore, it can be assumed that it was of certain significance, potentially even to the Ancient Kingdom.

How Enies Lobby Was Created

One Piece Buster Call Enies Lobby

The creation of Enies Lobby likely took place after the 100-year void was finally over. During the Void Century, a giant war of massive proportions was fought between the Ancient Kingdom and the collaboration of 20 Kingdoms that fought to overthrow and destroy it. At the end of it, the 20 Kingdoms emerged victorious, and thus, the World Government was finally created. With the creation of the World Government, all records of the Ancient Kingdom were destroyed, for the most part, except for the Poneglyphs. It was likely during this destruction process that Enies Lobby was established.

The World Government have a track record of taking over places that did not belong to them in the past. A prime example of this is the Holy Land of Marijoa. 400 years ago, Gods used to live there and these Gods belong to the race of Lunaria. Somehow, the World Government established themselves atop the Red Line instead, taking over their position of power. It is entirely possible that the Ancient Weapon Uranus was used by a member of the 20 Kingdoms in the past to wipe out an important ally of the Ancient Kingdom that stood where Enies Lobby is right now.

It is even possible that a part of the Ancient Kingdom lay where this hole is currently. Then, to gain control over the world, the World Government would have established Enies Lobby, which is where it has been ever since. This would also explain why Water Seven is the City of Water and why the water levels near this island are continuously rising every year, even if it is by small margins.

The question remains as to why Uranus would be used against the Ancient Kingdom when the weapon was created by them in the first place. It is possible that there was a traitor within the Ancient Kingdom that could potentially have done this. It is also possible that one of the 20 Kingdoms eventually asserted control over Ancient Weapon Uranus through some means and used it against them, creating Enies Lobby in the process. Of course, much of this is conjecture and Oda will surely answer the fans in the future. Until then, fans can theorize for fun, which is the beauty of One Piece, anyway.
