One Piece in all of its adaptations from the source material of the Manga to the movies and the anime manages to cover many different themes. Fans who are familiar with the story will know of the heavy presence of comedy, especially in the pre-time skip era. This is still very much present within the current stages of the story covering the aftermath of Wano Country and is still one of its driving forces.

With the story’s main character Monkey D. Luffy possessing a goofy, easy-going, and playful personality, it is only natural for comedy to be the main structure of the adventure. Luffy is one of the main reasons as to why fans love the series so much, but with the presence of the rest of the Straw Hats, it opens up the door to an entire collection of moments to leave viewers with a giggle, particularly with “God” Usopp.

8 Usopp Imitating Crocodile

In the early stages of the story, the Straw Hats took to Alabasta Kingdom which saw Luffy come up against one of the Seven Warlords at the time, Crocodile. In the midst of an ongoing war, Usopp spends his time mocking and imitating Crocodile in a hilarious attempt to put himself in “Crocodile’s shoes”. The comedic timing is perfect here, as it also sets first-mate Roronoa Zoro off into a rage smacking Usopp in the process.

What adds more humor to this scene is the manner in which both Usopp and Zoro share the same aggressive, angry, and violent expressions, often seen in multiple sections of the Straw Hats’ adventures.

7 Usopp Imitating Robin

Another instance in which Usopp gave fans a reason to giggle, with another amusing imitation. The voice acting by Kappei Yamaguchi, and the efforts of Toei Animation are what provide a combination to produce a hilarious sequence. The transition from Usopp’s expression, to Robin’s blue-beady eyes, just shows how beneficial it is for the rest of the crew to have him amongst them.

This transition is incredibly true to Nico Robin's traits, so much so, that it leaves “Soul King” Brook in tears with laughter despite the fact that he doesn’t have eyes.

6 Usopp’s “SHADDAP”

Whilst attempting to repair the “Going Merry” along with the rest of the crew, Usopp took the opportunity to spread some more laughs. Sanji who was busy requesting what his mates would prefer for dinner, Usopp gives a priceless shark-like expression whilst screaming “SHADDUP”. It left viewers hysterical, as Tony Chopper joined Usopp in teasing the Cook of the crew.

Fans of the series appear to love many downtime moments, considering the level of spontaneous jokes presented and this is one of the scenes which amplifies the level of comedy within the anime.

After being one of the crucial players in saving Dressrosa by taking out Donquixote Doflamingo’s subordinate Sugar on two occasions and awakening his Observation Haki in the process, Usopp was met with a huge bounty. This was a surprise to most fans but was also hilarious seeing his reaction to the matter.

The sheer panic and fear amongst the Tontatta Tribe and Usopp led to one of the funniest scenes in the anime. Fans would have appreciated the voice acting here once again by Yamaguchi.

4 Usopp Explaining Monkey Dance To Luffy

Without the main protagonist’s presence in this particular scene, comedy levels would not be as high. But Usopp’s frustration here with Luffy’s short attention span is absolutely priceless.

Whilst Usopp attempts to explain to Luffy the difference between “Monkey” and “Monkey Dance” Luffy endlessly screams “stupid banana”. Luffy knows he is a Devil Fruit user and touches the seastone bars in the gate they are trapped in and snaps out of it all, leaving Usopp irritated. Viewers will know of Luffy’s carelessness and nonsensical behavior, adding to their love for the character, which made this scenario even more humorous.

3 Usopp Spell

Usopp Spell against Enel

Facing off against Skypeia’s “God” Enel, Usopp attempts to use one of his theatrics to throw him off. Whilst Usopp is one of the less formidable members of the Straw Hats, he still shows moments of courage and bravery despite how powerful the foe is.

To the viewers’ amusement, Enel watches on as Usopp performs his spell with a blank stare and squint in his eyes. Soon after, he smacks Usopp upside the head disposing of him with little to no effort. It is Usopp’s creativity despite the lies, which makes scenes as such amusing.

2 Sogeking Disguise

Sogeking first appearance

One of the more famous memes many fans will be aware of is Usopp's Sogeking disguise in the Enies Lobby arc, due to his departure from the crew in Water 7. In an attempt to stick with the crew on their mission to rescue Nico Robin, Usopp manages to deceive both Luffy and Chopper into believing that the Sogeking persona is genuine, despite it being so obvious.

Viewers will know of the running joke within the community, as some still have running theories on who Sogeking really is and whether he knows Usopp. Just like the many other gags such as Zoro vs Sanji, Oda managed to deliver another here which still manages to make fans laugh to this day.

1 Ten Ton Hammer

Usopp Makes Perona Faint

This goes hand in hand with Usopp’s character gag throughout the series, as he is known as a liar. When facing off against Perona in Thriller Bark, Usopp manages to defeat her by using this deceiving tactic to come out victorious.

Carrying a hammer which is displayed as ten tonnes, he leaves Perona fainting as he hits her whilst she is unaware, despite his weapon not being heavy at all, to begin with. Tactics as such have been on display multiple times from Usopp, ensuring his survival in any way shape, or form in the dangerous situations he finds himself in. As well as the more serious tones and story plots within One Piece, this is the quirky and creative personality Usopp possesses which allows viewers to appreciate the character and the comedy Eiichiro Oda provides using him.
