The Five Elders, also known as the Gorosei, are some of the most important characters in One Piece, even though they have not really played much of a major role directly in the story so far. From the very beginning of the story, it was quite evident that the Gorosei are going to gain more importance as the story moves forward.

Now, One Piece is in its Final Saga and this is the time for the Five Elders as well as the other mysterious characters who pulled the strings from the shadows up until this point to make a move. Recently, the Gorosei have been seeing more screentime than ever before and Oda has finally revealed their names, as well as their roles in the story, and the powers that they possess. Undoubtedly, the Five Elders will see much more screentime from here onwards and fans are extremely thrilled about that.

Who Are The Five Elders?

Gorosei

The Five Elders were introduced in One Piece long before the timeskip. It was made pretty clear to the fans that they are some of the most influential characters within the World Government, given that they were the ones always seen at the helm of things. It wasn't much later until it was clarified by Oda himself that the Gorosei are the highest-ranking of all Celestial Dragons. For quite a while, it was debatable whether the Gorosei worked under regular Celestial Dragons or over them, but, as mentioned above, this debate was quickly put to rest by Oda himself.

As the highest ranking of the Celestial Dragons, the Five Elders have always been the ones giving commands and shaping the way the world is run. To the normal world, they are the ones with the highest power in the entire world of One Piece, however, that is far from the truth. In reality, the de facto ruler of the world is none other than Imu. Imu is the one with even higher authority than the Gorosei and the person to the will of whom the world bends. Nonetheless, the Five Elders still possess tremendous powers up their sleeve. The identity of the Five Elders was kept secret until recently, however, now, Oda has revealed their names as well as their roles in the Final Saga of One Piece.

The Names Of The Five Elders

The very first of the Five Elders to have his name revealed in the story was Saint Jaygarcia Saturn. Saturn was seen onboard the same ship that Kizaru took en route to Egghead Island. With them, they have 100 battleships because they intend to kill Vegapunk and suppress any kind of resistance that he shows. Furthermore, Vegapunk has incredible scientific prowess and for that reason, Saturn chose to go to Egghead Island himself.

The other members of the Five Elders had their names shrouded and mystery until recently. However, One Piece chapter 1086 saw to it that the names of the Five Elders were finally revealed. All of them have had their proper introductions in One Piece now and that only means that their roles will be even more prevalent from here onwards. The other members of the gorosei are:

Saint Shepherd Jupeter - Warrior God Of Agriculture

Fans famously know Saint Shepherd Jupeter as the blonde Gorosei. He doesn't seem to carry any weapons, other than a flintlock pistol. Nonetheless, he appears to be a very powerful character who will surely be more involved in the story moving on from here. Saint Shepherd Jupeter is also the Agricultural Warrior God.

The fact that he is a Warrior God means that he is an incredibly powerful combatant, likely one of the strongest in the entire story. Being the Agricultural Warrior God also suggests some sort of connection with plants themselves. At the same time, his Devil Fruit power appears to be rather vague, as it was revealed in One Piece chapter 1085. Fans couldn't make out what transformation he undertook from his silhouette. The only thing that was clear was that he had a Zoan transformation with a creature that had a huge gaping mouth.

Saint Topman Valkyrie - Warrior God of Justice

The bald Gorosei with a giant mustache is the one named Saint Topman Valkyrie. He is also the Warrior God of Justice, which likely means that all things regarding delivering justice and passing judgment might pass through him. Once again, fans do not know what powers he possesses at this point, however, he was seen with a flintlock pistol as well.

He also has a Devil Fruit power that lets him transform into a creature that resembles either an elephant or a hippo, however, that is entirely based on the silhouette and could turn out to be any creature really. Nonetheless, Saint Topman Valkyrie will have more information revealed about him later on in the story.

Saint Ethan Baron V. Nasujuro - Warrior God of Finance

One Piece Gorosei Devil Fruits

Quite easily the most popular member of the Gorosei is the bald one with glasses. This member of the Five Elders also carries a sword believed to be the Shodai Kitetsu. Finally, Oda revealed the name of the bald Gorosei with glasses to be Saint Ethan Baron V. Nasujuro. The name itself implies that this member of the Five Elders is somehow connected to the land of Wano.

At the same time, he also possesses a Devil Fruit which looks like it is a type of Hito Hito no Mi. Like all other Gorosei members, he is named after a planet, and, in his case, it is Venus, the second planet in the solar system. V. Nasujuro is also the Warrior God of Finance, which would mean that everything related to finance likely passes through him within the World Government. Interestingly, this also ties back to Wano being called the Country of Gold in the past.

Saint Marcus Mars - Warrior God of Environment

Finally, the last member of the Five Elders to have his name revealed in the chapter was none other than the one with a giant mustache and a long pointy beard, and Oda has chosen to name him Saint Marcus Mars. As quite evident from his name, he is named after the planet Mars itself. He also seems to carry a pistol with him, however, the true power that he possesses lies in his yet-unknown Devil Fruit ability.

In One Piece chapter 1085, it was revealed to the fans that he possesses the powers of a creature that resembles a bird. What kind of a bird it is remains to be seen, however, fans can rest assured that it is going to be a Mythical Zoan bird, or a creature similar to the Garuda. At the same time, Saint Marcus Mars is also the Warrior God of Environment, which suggests that his powers might have to do with nature itself.
