Sabo is Luffy's older brother and one of the most important characters in Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. Introduced for the first time during Luffy's flashback after the Summit War, Sabo is the son of the Nobles of Goa Kingdom. At a very young age, he created a special bond with Ace and Luffy and declared himself to be their brother. Sabo's life was quite restricting and, ever since he was a child, he aimed to find true freedom. As such, he wanted to be a pirate at first. However, as things turned out, Sabo ended up joining the Revolutionary Army and has, since then, become their Chief of Staff.

Currently, Sabo is one of the major players in the One Piece world, and recently, he even led the attack on Mary Geoise, declaring war on the Celestial Dragons on behalf of the Revolutionary Army. After managing to free Kuma, it was revealed that Sabo was now known throughout the world as the Flame Emperor and had become even more famous than Dragon himself. His fate was finally revealed and he was declared safe. However, recently, Sabo has found himself in trouble once again as he is being targeted by none other than Imu themselves.

Sabo On Lulusia Kingdom

Sabo in Lulusia

Sabo, along with three of the Revolutionary Army Commanders in Karasu, Lindbergh, and Morley, attacked Mariejois, the Holy Land of the Celestial Dragons. There, they declared war on their kind and also freed Bartholomew Kuma. To do this, Sabo and his Commanders fought against two of the Navy Admirals in Fujitora and Green Bull. Together, they managed to emerge victorious in the clash and successfully take Kuma from the Holy Land. At the same time, Sabo gained great fame as he was framed for the murder of King Cobra of Arabasta Kingdom. In One Piece 1060, fans finally saw Sabo communicate with the Revolutionary Army commanders and the leader, Monkey D. Dragon himself.

Expectedly, he revealed that he was not the one behind the murder of King Cobra. Fans already knew that Sabo would have nothing to do with that, however, would be framed for Cobra's murder. Evidently, the commanders of the Revolutionary Army believed the same. However, that wasn't the interesting bit of the information that Sabo revealed. Sabo had somehow seen the ruler of the entire world, Imu, who sits atop the Empty Throne. After managing to see him, Sabo somehow escaped from the Holy Land and sought refuge in the Lulusia Kingdom. Eventually, he made this information known to his Revolutionary Army comrades, and, in doing so, the Marines also found out about his location, meaning the same was conveyed to the Gorosei and also Imu, which marked the beginning of a tragic fate for Sabo.

Is Sabo Dead?

Sabo at Levely

As soon as Sabo revealed the existence of Imu to the Army, the Ruler of the World was seen marking an X atop the map of the Lulusia Kingdom. Shortly afterwards, a giant body was seen hovering over the country hidden amidst the clouds. In a moment of utter shock, it fired multiple rays towards the island, completely obliterating it and erasing it from the face of the earth. By the looks of it, Sabo was on the island and got caught up in the giant explosion. Before the explosion, the Gorosei made sure to cut all connections to the Lulusia Kingdom. Its existence was completely erased and, given that the island simply doesn't exist anymore, eventually, it will be wiped out from the histories as well.

It goes without saying that every single person living in the Lulusia Kingdom is now dead. However, the question of whether Sabo faced the same fate remains unanswered. While it is extremely hard for anyone to survive an explosion of that magnitude, Sabo is the Chief of Staff of the Revolutionary Army and not an average human. At the same time, he has a Logia ability that makes his body intangible. As such, it is possible for him to have barely survived this explosion. What's more, it must be noted that Oda would kill off Sabo in a more emphatic way if he ever wanted to. At the very least, fans can rest assured that Sabo is alive right now.

Although alive, Sabo's fate is still quite a big mystery. The fact remains that Sabo has been carefully separated from his comrades by Oda. At the same time, he was recently injured fighting the Admirals, and now, he could potentially have barely escaped the destruction of the Lulusia Kingdom. It is safe to say that Sabo is, at the very least, not in fighting condition. He is likely to be severely injured and given that the World Government knew his exact location, they could very well retrieve him and whatever remained in the aftermath of the destruction of the Lulusia Kingdom. As such, Sabo could very well be captured and ready to be executed by the World Government.

This also ties in well to how Oda suggested that he would be in danger during a Jump Festa message from a few years ago. It would also parallel how Ace got captured towards the end of the Paradise half of the Grand Line. Now, Sabo could possibly be the one getting captured. While Luffy failed to save Ace in the past, he would certainly not want to let the tragedy repeat. Luffy would most certainly succeed in saving his brother if he is indeed captured. This would likely be one of the central plot points of the Great War that is coming in the final Saga of One Piece. As Oda once said, this war is set to make Marineford look much smaller in comparison and is, therefore, something that every fan should be looking forward to.
