One of the most important characters in One Piece, Eustass Kid is a member of the Worst Generation, just like Luffy, and he's been central to the Wano Country arc of the story. Being the Captain of the Kid Pirates, Kid wants to make a big name for himself and eventually become the Pirate King. Immediately after his debut during the Sabaody Archipelago arc, fans could feel that Kid would turn out to be extremely important to the story moving forward and now, almost a decade later, Kid's time to shine has arrived.

One Piece's Wano Country arc has seen to it that Kid receives his fair share of attention and in the Raid on Onigashima, he proved himself to be strong enough to go up against the Yonko of the New World. Not only did he fight against Kaido on the rooftop, but he also clashed with Yonko Big Mom after teaming up with Trafalgar Law, another member of the Worst Generation. Surprisingly, Kid got a major power-up in his fight against Big Mom, and it was revealed that he had awakened his Devil Fruit some time ago.

How Kid Awakened The Jiki Jiki no Mi

Kid hadn't been focused on in the story ever since Sabaody Archipelago and all fans saw of him were small glimpses every now and then, meaning it is quite hard to pinpoint when he awakened his Devil Fruit. It must be remembered that he entered the New World immediately after the Paramount War and has more experience than Luffy on these seas, meaning he's likely fought more people here, giving him more opportunities to take his ability to the next level. One of the biggest fights that Kid took part in was the one against Kaido, where the Yonko ambushed them.

Sadly, the fight was off-screened but Kid and Killer lost the fight badly and were thus taken to Wano Country, where the former was held captive. It is likely that Kid managed to use his awakening for the first time here. Had Kid used his awakening against Kaido, the Yonko would surely have sustained some damage to show for it, given how effective it was against Big Mom. Nonetheless, in the fight against Big Mom, Kid resorted to using his awakening and this helped him do significant damage to her throughout the course of the battle. Looking at his powers, it is clear to see why he's one of the members of the Worst Generation.

How Kid's Jiki Jiki no Mi Awakening Works

Eustass Kid Awakening

Eiichiro Oda made sure to illustrate quite a lot of the abilities of the Jiki Jiki no Mi throughout Onigashima and while there are some powers that are extremely impressive, such as Punk Corna Dio or Damned Punk, Kid's awakening is just as interesting to look at. Obviously, Kid has the powers of the Jiki Jiki no Mi, meaning he can control magnetic forces at will. Given that Devil Fruit awakening allows one to affect things other than themselves, Kid's magnetism-related powers evolve to the next level.

The very first ability that Kid utilizes with his Jiki Jiki no Mi awakening is Assign. As the name suggests, this allows him to assign magnetic properties to any foreign bodies, regardless of whether they're metallic or not. For instance, Kid was able to turn Big Mom into a magnetic object when the two fought and make use of this in battle to create several openings. To be more precise, Kid can assign polarity to any object. Towards the end of his fight against Big Mom, Kid assigned the south pole to her, signified by a giant S on her forehead, and the North Pole to the construct behind her, signified by N. As expected, two objects with opposing poles attract each other with great force, so much so that even a Yonko had trouble breaking free from it.

Eustass Kid Punk Clash

One of Kid's strongest abilities, called Punk Clash, is focused around his Devil Fruit awakening. On Onigashima, he used it on Big Mom after turning her into a highly magnetic object. This, in turn, attracted all the metal in her immediate surroundings to her. Even the steel beams from Kaido's castle framework came off and eventually buried her. Evidently, this attack caused a lot of damage to Big Mom and even made her bleed. It is highly likely that Kid has more in his bag when it comes to awakening but hasn't shown it yet.

Compared to Law, his awakening powers aren't all that impressive, however, his Devil Fruit remains to be one of the most powerful ones among the Worst Generation, and he's proved that on Onigashima. Without a doubt, Kid's awakening powers will help establish him as one of the biggest pirates of the New World once the Wano Country arc is done.
