One Piece chapter 1103 is the first of 2024 and mangaka Eiichiro Oda promises that this year will be full of exciting developments in the manga. The One Piece 2023 chapters have been some of the most revealing yet and as the story progresses, the story gets closer and closer to its climax. Bartholomew Kuma’s flashback has given fans insight into important events such as the God Valley Incident, and both the technologies and themes introduced in Egghead are likely foundational to what is to come.

Egghead Arc’s narrative has been on hold since Kuma’s flashback started in One Piece chapter 1095. However, the latest chapter marks the return to the main storyline with Kuma’s arrival on the battlefield. Here, Saturn is holding Bonnie hostage, and due to his fight with Admiral Kizaru, a still unconscious Luffy is unable to help as the Straw Hats are effortlessly defeated by his overwhelming power.

One Piece chapter 1103 sees the end of Bartholomew Kuma’s flashback and transports fans back to the current events unfolding on Egghead. After York’s initial betrayal and the arrival of the Marine forces, the Straw Hats had made progress towards escaping the island and things seemed to be falling into place when they managed to take control of the Pacifista through the Command Hierarchy. Saturn’s arrival on the battlefield has once again turned the tides on them, and they are now in trouble as there is no one strong enough to take on Saturn.

In One Piece chapter 1103, fans witness a defeated Jewelry Bonney lose her will to live after having seen Kuma’s memory. This easily explains her actions when, overcome by rage and a desire for revenge, she launched herself at Saturn with a knife. Of course, she was easily overpowered by him, and she is now held hostage, with Luffy unable to fight due to his Gear 5 related exhaustion after having used it against Borsalino. However, not all is lost, and a panel shows Luffy eating to replenish his forces while mysteriously surrounded by meat.

Did Kizaru Feed Luffy?

Ever since One Piece chapter 1103 showed Luffy eating food on the battlefield, fans have been asking themselves which of the present managed to assist him. With the Straw Hats, Vegapunk and Bonney unable to move, there are few characters left with the skills to deliver food fast enough to not be noticed. This is why many in the community believe it to have been Admiral Kizaru, whose use of the Pika Pika No Mi grants him the ability to accomplish that feat unseen.

All the way back when Kizaru first approached Egghead, fans realized that though he was still executing orders, his heart wasn’t into it. He was first displeased with having to enter into conflict with Sentomaru, and then seemed to be taking his fight with Luffy more light-heartedly than one would expect. The Kuma flashback sheds some light on why this may be, as Admiral Kizaru is often seen with Kuma, Bonney and Vegapunk, and they appear to have a friendly relationship. On Egghead, Bonney’s life is being threatened by Saturn, and this may have been the final straw that led Kizaru to disobey the World Government.

The Egghead Arc has touched upon the themes of free will and blind obedience on multiple occasions. Kuma is a man who has lost his free will due to Saturn’s decision to wipe his consciousness, whereas Fleet Admiral Sakazuki’s position in the Marines forces him into blind obedience to the World Government. Up until now, it seemed Kizaru was in a similar situation, but if it was indeed him who fed Luffy, this act of defiance shows that, unlike Akainu, he is willing to jeopardize his position for his morals.
