Franky is the shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates and the seventh person to join Luffy's crew in One Piece. He was once living life as a dismantler in the underworld of Water 7 and eventually ended up playing a huge role in the Enies Lobby arc.

Being one of the most popular characters in One Piece, Eiichiro Oda has put special focus on him, from his story to the way he dresses in every arc. Franky's attires before and after the timeskip are quite interesting and certainly complement both his personality and his backstory in more ways than one.

7 Outfit As A Child

Franky hails from the South blue and was abandoned by his parents, who were both pirates. He found his way to Water 7, which is where he was adopted by Tom's Workers.

As a child, Franky's outfits have changed quite little to how he dresses today. He used to wear a speedo with a half sleeves Hawaiian Aloha shirt that was left unbuttoned. This was seen during his flashback in the Water 7 ark where he would often be constructing Battle Frankys.

6 Debut Outfit

Unlike most members of the Straw Hat Pirates, Franky's debut was handled quite differently. When seen first, Franky was in disguise and wore a mask and a robe so as to keep people from realizing that he was buying Adam Wood from the black market.

He did this specifically to steal money from Usopp and to use it to his heart's desire. This outfit changed quite soon when he was done conducting his business and returned from his short trip.

5 Before The Timeskip

Like most members of the Straw Hat Pirates, Franky often goes through quite a few outfit changes with every island that they visit and on the crew, he is one of the men who bathe every three days, meaning he changes clothes often too.

Most of the time, he wears speedo trunks and an unbuttoned short-sleeved Hawaiian Aloha shirt. This has been his outfit of choice ever since he was a kid. However, while growing up, he has switched the style up a bit. In the water 7 arc, he wore a red shirt with blue trunks and he switched to a yellow shirt in the Thriller Bark arc.

4 Reason For Choosing His Outfit

Franky before time-skip

Franky's choice of clothes isn't as random as it seems. While as a kid he preferred to dress less, as an adult there are several reasons for him wearing the clothes that he chooses. He wears an unbuttoned shirt because the various mechanical installments on his body are more accessible that way.

At the same time, he avoids wearing trousers because of techniques such as Franky Centaur that would otherwise be impossible for him to use. At the same time, Franky isn't afraid to take his shirt off during combat, especially when he needs to access weapons that are covered by his shirt such as the rocket launchers in his shoulders.

3 Why He Covers His Back

Just as Franky wears an unbuttoned shirt so that he can access all the weapons installed in the front of his body, he also covers his back with the shirt at all times. This is because when Franky fixed himself after his accident with the Puffing Tom, he could only make the front of his body into that other cyborg.

His back is one of his biggest weaknesses and, thus, needs protection at all times. Hence, keeping it covered is his way to protect it. While on paper, Franky's choice of clothes might seem random, Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, has made it clear that Franky chooses his outfits for certain reasons.

2 After The Timeskip

Franky's choice of clothes has changed very little after the time skip. Thanks to the blueprints that he found in Vegapunk's laboratory in the Kingdom of Bulgemore, Franky made several modifications to his body.

His physique is much bigger than before and he has several new weapons implemented in his body now. Furthermore, his hair can now be controlled with his nose but he often uses it to compliment whatever it is that he's wearing. As for his outfit, Franky now wears a red coconut-motivated Hawaiian t-shirt, along with red briefs.

1 Wano Outfit

In the Wano Country arc, Franky switched to a yutaka, much like the majority of the crewmates. He wore a blue Yutaka while working for Minatomo, the expert craftsman in the country. During the Raid of Onigashima, Franky switched to a battle armor and coupled that with his Hawaiian shirt and briefs once again.

He ended up playing quite a crucial role in the war and fought Sasaki of the Beasts Pirates. He then proceeded to save Zoro's life after the latter almost died follwoing his clash against King the Wildfire.
