Highlights

  • Only 4 confirmed Supreme Grade weapons in One Piece, with 3 shown, leaving fans speculating about the rest.
  • Legendary blades like Gryphon wielded by characters like Shanks have shown impressive feats of strength.
  • Rayleigh's sword, though unnamed, is speculated to be a Supreme Grade weapon due to its power and durability.

Supreme Grade Blades, or the Saijo O Wazamono, are the strongest weapons in all of One Piece. Historically, these weapons have been wielded by some of the strongest characters in the entire franchise, including Whitebeard and the King of Pirates, Gol D. Roger, who were some of the most important players in the series. These weapons are themselves legendary and have seen seemingly hundreds of battles each.

However, there are only 4 confirmed Supreme Grade weapons, out of which 3 have been shown. With One Piece having confirmed the existence of a total of 12 Supreme Grades, fans have been wondering about the remaining ones for years on end, with many preexisting weapons being theorized to belong to this tier. So, let's see which arms may just fit into this legendary category!

An Elder's Sword May Be A Legendary Blade

nusjuro-sword

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 151, "The 100,000,000 Man! The World's Highest Authority and the Pirate Blackbeard"

Users

Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro

As one of the Five Elders who head the World Government, Nusjuro is a character whose importance cannot be understated. Due to this, many believe him to be an unrivaled master swordsman whose station befits him wielding a legendary blade belonging to the 12 Supreme Grade Weapons. And, many instances in the story have alluded to him wielding one of the most infamous blades of them all.

Why this Sword Might be Supreme Grade

Though the actual name and power of this sword are unknown, due to Nusjuro never actually being seen using the weapon, many fans of the series unanimously believe him to be the wielder of the legendary Shodai Kitetsu. This can only be speculation until it has been confirmed, but it does bear the same wooden saya design and the rounded-out cross tsuba, both of which are identifying factors of the Kitetsu swords.

One Piece, Episode 151, "The 100,000,000 Man! The World's Highest Authority and the Pirate Blackbeard"

Shanks

Shanks is an Emperor of the Sea, one of only 4 to hold such a title, making him one of the strongest characters in the entire series. Owing to his power, he also owns his legendary saber that goes by the name of Gryphon. This weapon has been at his side since the start and has proven to be incredibly powerful, allowing him to contend with some of the strongest characters in all of One Piece.

Why this Sword Might be Supreme Grade

Gryphon has shown some of the most impressive feats of strength out of all the weapons in the story. It has gone toe-to-toe with Whitebeard's Murakumogiri and perhaps even Mihawk's Yoru, both of which are confirmed to be Supreme Grade weapons. Along with this, it could also withstand Sakazuki's magma punch, and it even has the unique ability to be imbued with a fiery aura at Shank's command.

Rayleigh's Sword Has Great Power

Kizaru vs Rayleigh

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 8, "Who Will Win? Showdown Between the True Powers of the Devil Fruit!"

User

Silvers Rayleigh

Rayleigh is one of the strongest and most formidable pirates in the history of One Piece. Being the right-hand man to Gol D. Roger himself, Rayleigh's strength is extremely formidable, as his mastery over swordsmanship and Haki is enough to make even the strongest characters think twice before facing him. One of the biggest reasons why he is so legendary is because of his skill with a sword.

Why this Sword Might be Supreme Grade

Though unnamed and unranked, Rayleigh's sword must have some incredible power and durability to keep up with him and all the opponents he has faced. His control over the blade is incredible, as he was able to match even Admiral Kizaru himself in a fight, along with using it to create powerful wind slashes against his opponents. It should come as no surprise if this sword ends up being a Supreme Grade Weapon.

Hassaikai Is Deadly To Go Up Against

Kaido with his weapon

First Appearance

One Piece, Episode 779, "Kaido Returns - An Immanent Threat to the Worst Generation"

User

Kaido

Kaido's power is legendary, as it was enough to make him one of the 4 Emperors of the Sea. Though his strength was incredible by every measure, his skill with his legendary kanabo, Hassaikai, was enough to inspire fear in even the most stalwart of pirates. This weapon is the pirate's method of choice when it comes to dishing out melee damage that he uses to send his enemies flying with just a single hit.

Why this Sword Might be Supreme Grade

Aside from its terrifying power and incredible strength, the kanabo is a hulking weapon made completely of resilient black metal. This is important because 3 of the only known Supreme Grade weapons are all made from black metal themselves, and the overall strength and durability of the Hassaikai are enough to warrant a place along with them.

One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
