Boa Hancock, also known as the Pirate Empress and Snake Princess, is the leader of the female-only pirate crew, the Kuja Pirates. She is also the Empress of a female-only island called Amazon Lily. Every single warrior on this island is a Haki user, specifically known to be the Kuja Haki, and a force to be reckoned with.
She's known to be an incredibly powerful character and, as the leader of the Kuja, is one of the few characters to have access to all three types of Haki. In fact, Hancock is also of the only two women who possess the Color of the Supreme King. That, coupled with her incredible relationship with Luffy, makes her a very lovable character. As with all of Oda's designs, Hancock's clothes carry a few intriguing secrets about her.
7 Her Debut Outfit
Hancock's first appearance came during the Amazon Lily arc, after Luffy was sent to the island by Bartholomew Kuma, one of the Shichibukai, following the events of the Sabaody Archipelago arc. She was first seen putting down a Navy ship and all its soldiers with her sheer beauty.
Hancock made her debut in One Piece chapter 516, and episode 409 of the anime. She was seen wearing her iconic red dress decorated with the Kuja symbol, a pirate cross with seven snake heads spawning out. Added to that, she wore a white cape on her shoulders and, to top things off, one of her most iconic accessories, her snake earrings which she wears no matter the outfit.
6 The Color Swap
Very few fans know that there is a striking difference between the design of Boa Hancock in the manga and the one in the anime. After the timeskip, the choice of color for her clothes is starkly different in the two media. In the manga, the color picked for her dress was a beautiful shade of blue. This, however, was changed to red in the anime.
It is unknown why this change was made in the anime, however, one can assume that the staff found this color more fitting to her personality. After all, red is seen as a very seductive color. Curiously, Hancock isn't the only character subjected to a color swap, as another member of the Shichibukai, Bartholomew Kuma, joins her.
5 Hancock And Luffy
After Luffy protected the Gorgon Sisters' secret of being slaves, Hancock opened up to him about her past trauma. There, she ended up discovering that Monkey D. Luffy had punched a Celestial Dragon, and his innocent and pure nature led to Hancock developing feelings for him.
Interestingly, their relationship is reflected in some of their clothing choices. Hancock was once seen wearing a red robe with a yellow sash, which is reminiscent of what Luffy adorns after the timeskip. Another interesting detail is the flower belt Hancock wears on her regular red outfit. In One Piece Film: Red, Luffy is seen wearing it with his battle outfit.
4 Salome
When talking about Hancock, it's hard to overlook her large snake pet, Salome. Salome is a large female snake, mostly white, with pink dots on her body. She is also one of Hancock's closest allies, along with her sisters, and accompanies her wherever she goes.
Despite her wearing an intimidating large skull on her head, Salome seems to be a very innocent snake that enjoys Hancock's company. At the same time, she also serves as a deadly asset to Hancock, complementing both her fighting style and snake aesthetic.
3 Stampede Outfit
One Piece: Stampede was a huge hit in theaters and one of the most popular One Piece movies to date, until the recent release of Film Red. To the fans' delight, this movie provided an opportunity to showcase Hancock again, especially since her last appearance was quite a while ago.
What's more, the anime even made sure to center her in the promotional filler released for the movie. In Stampede, Hancock dons herself in a long dress, half black and half white, with a purple slash, and golden Kuja crests on it. Undoubtedly, it is one of her best looks to date.
2 Slave Mark
The Gorgon Sisters, Hancock, Marigold, and Sandersonia were kidnapped as children and sold as slaves to the Celestial Dragons. Later on, they were branded on their backs with the hoof of the dragon – a mark of the slaves that they would go to any lengths to hide.
The sisters even went as far as to invent a curse story and deceive the entirety of Amazon Lily. As such, it's no surprise that Hancock's outfits all cover her back very well. This was done by Oda on purpose so as to never expose her secret to the world.
1 Kuja Pirate Symbol

The Kuja Pirates are a crew that hail from Amazon Lily, an island exclusive to women, in the Calm Belt. Ever since the old times, the Kuja have ruled over this island. Hancock, being the current Empress of the island, carries the Kuja symbol with great pride.
This symbol consists of a pirate skull, surrounded by seven snake heads. Expectedly, Hancock wears this symbol on nearly all of her outfits with few exceptions. All this has played its part in earning her the title of Snake Princess.
