The Whole Cake Island arc is one of the best One Piece arcs. The Whole Cake Island arc is the second-longest arc in the Four Emperors Saga. Originally, Whole Cake Island was not supposed to be a destination for the Straw Hat Pirates, as they had to take down Kaido, who was in Wano.

The crew had to alter their plans after Sanji was taken to Big Mom's territory by Capone Bege and his crew. Luffy decided that he had to get Sanji back at all costs. So he formed the Sanji Retrieval Team, whose objective was to invade Big Mom's territory and get Sanji back. While Luffy and co. were deciding their course of action, Sanji was in a very miserable state. After meeting his family, the old wounds reopened and there wasn't much that Sanji could do about it. All he could do was wait for things to end. It was only when he met Charlotte Pudding that he felt some kind of reprieve.

A Heartbreaking Story

Sanji crying outside Pudding's window

When Sanji met Pudding, he was over the moon, and he could not believe that such a gorgeous woman would be his wife. Sanji had accepted his fate that he would never be with the Straw Hat Pirates or Zeff, so he tried to look at the only good thing that was in front of him. Sanji decided that he would find solace by marrying Charlotte Pudding. He tried his very best to pretend that he was not affected by the events taking place around him. He opened up to Pudding and told her about everything that was in his heart, and at that time, it seemed that Pudding reciprocated Sanji's feelings.

Before Sanji headed out to meet her, and he made her some food, which he believed Pudding would like very much. He set out in very high spirits, but he had no idea what awaited him. Sanji stopped outside Pudding's window, and he heard her talking to Reiju. As Pudding began to talk with Reiju, it became increasingly clear that she bore no goodwill towards Sanji and that she was only pretending to be nice so that she could assassinate him on the day of the wedding. Sanji was outside listening to the entire conversation, and needless to say, he was utterly heartbroken.

The Change Of Heart

Pudding crying after removing Sanji's memories

On the wedding day, when Pudding revealed her third eye to Sanji, she was expecting him to call her ugly. However, Sanji did no such thing instead, he called her beautiful. Pudding wasn't anticipating this response at all, so she could not bring herself to shoot Sanji. She was overcome with emotions and she broke down. As the arc continued, the two of them started to work together for the cake that would quell Big Mom's hunger. Throughout this entire time, Pudding fluctuated between loving and hating Sanji.

When Sanji was about to leave Whole Cake Island, Pudding kissed him, but she erased the memory of the incident from his head. Then she ran away and broke down in tears. Pudding's guilt did not let her rest and knowing that Sanji genuinely cares about her even when she tricked him, left her in agony. After the story moved on from Whole Cake Island, Pudding did not appear until One Piece chapter 1064.

The Power of The Third Eye

Charlotte Pudding from One Piece

Charlotte Pudding is a half-member of the Three-Eye Tribe, which is an extremely rare race. The members of the Three-Eye Tribe can potentially awaken the power to decipher the Poneglyphs. However, this ability can only be used once a person reaches the state of true awakening with their third eye. Considering the tribe's ability to read the Poneglyphs, it is not surprising that no other Three-Eye tribe members have been revealed in the series.

According to Pudding, a half-and-half might never be able to awaken their ability, though it is also possible that they might accomplish the feat. It is conceivable that after the events of the Whole Cake Island, Pudding was able to awaken this ability, which is why she became a target for the most heinous pirate crew in the world. In the most recent chapters, it was revealed that the Blackbeard Pirates had invaded Whole Cake Island. The crew's motive was pretty clear. They wanted to kidnap Charlotte Pudding, so they could use her ability to decipher the Road Poneglyphs.

According to the manga, it is implied that the territory of Big Mom was invaded by two members of the Blackbeard Pirates, namely, Kuzan and Van Augur. The devil fruit abilities of both the pirates made it very easy for them to kidnap Pudding and take her back to their ship. Once again, Blackbeard deserves a lot of praise for his planning. The Big Mom Pirates were significantly weakened as they had just lost their captain, and on top of that, they had to deal with the threat of the Germa Kingdom.

If the crew had decided to invade some other time it is very likely that they would have been met with a great deal of resistance which is something that Blackbeard tends to avoid at all times. If Blackbeard successfully defeats Trafalgar Law and forces Pudding to awaken her ability (if she hasn't already), then he will be dangerously close to claiming the One Piece. Currently, the fight seems to have reached an impasse, so it is difficult to predict a winner. The fans will have to wait for an extra week to know the conclusion, as One Piece will be on a break after chapter 1064. However, they can expect Oda to provide a conclusion to the fight between the two Worst Generation members.
