The tales from Oddworld still hold a special place in the hearts of many gamers. With a new Oddworld title on the horizon, publisher Oddworld Inhabitants is giving players the chance to explore the back catalog of the franchise.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee will take another swing at a portable machine when it releases on May 14 for the Nintendo Switch accompanied by a $30 price tag. Those who pre-purchase the game can get a third of that price knocked off making it $20. This version will come with some upgrades to bring the near two-decade old experience to modern standards. The game will feature higher resolution textures and include some higher quality models. Crucially, the game will run at 60 frames per second.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee was released in 2001 as part of the original Xbox launch lineup. Based on Metacritic scores, it stands as the sixth best launch title for Microsoft's first foray into the console hardware business. It eventually received a PlayStation 3 and a PlayStation Vita port in 2012 and 2014 respectively. This will be the first platform release of this generation of consoles giving players the change to try the often forgotten third entry in the Oddworld franchise.

While Munch's Oddysee doesn't receive the same adoration as other entries in the franchise, it still has its fans. This release comes four months after the Switch version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, a cult favorite that didn't quite materialize as well as many had hoped. These Nintendo Switch ports are likely an attempt to restore interest in the franchise as the long awaited Oddworld: Soulstorm is set to release this year. A physical edition of Munch's Oddysee for the Switch is planned for later this year.
