Square Enix and Acquire's Octopath Traveler 2 is launching imminently, and fans of the first game are looking forward to diving into a new story and the brand-new setting of Solistia. Alongside the different world to explore and various narrative threads to follow as they intersect and diverge, Octopath Traveler 2 has a completely new cast of eight playable characters for gamers to get to know. While the sequel is aiming to elevate the formula of its predecessor, it's still retaining a lot of the same elements such as its eight different classes.

The classes that gamers were introduced to in the first Octopath Traveler are making a return, but with a few tweaks. In the lead-up to Octopath Traveler 2's release, Square Enix and Acquire have been dropping character trailers that have been providing more information about the protagonists that players will be going on their adventures with, as well as the difference between the classes and the different actions they can use. Temenos is Octopath Traveler 2's Cleric, with his own unique background and abilities that gamers will be able to utilize.

Introducing Octopath Traveler 2's Temenos

Temenos Mistral starts the game as an easygoing Inquisitor in the mountainous region of the Crestlands in Northeast Solistia. He calls Aelfric Cathedral home, which sits high atop the hills and peaks and is the center of the Sacred Flame faith. The Cathedral is the warm beating heart of the community -- especially since the bitterly cold winter of the previous century -- and houses the Sacred Flame that is worshiped by the religion's followers. However, Temenos' peaceful existence is interrupted by a tragedy within the church, and he knows things will never be the same.

The evidence that heretics are mobilizing against the church continues to stack up, and Temenos knows he must act. Determined to find the real explanation for the unexpected incident, Temenos leaves his home to seek out the truth. Aided in his investigation by characters like the newly anointed Sanctum Knight Crick, it's Temenos' responsibility during his journey in Octopath Traveler 2 to right the wrongs and solve the mystery for himself, for the cathedral, and for the small town of Flamechurch that lies at the mountain's base.

How Octopath Traveler 2's Cleric Class Compares

With Octopath Traveler 2's new dynamic daytime and nighttime cycle, the game's combat and character actions offer lots of new opportunities and choices when it comes to handling situations. Depending on what time of day it is, Temenos has a couple of different routes he can take to combat enemies and progress his quest. During the daytime, Temenos can guide NPCs and choose to bring them along with him or summon them to aid him in battle if his level is high enough. During the nighttime, his Path Action lets him coerce information out of a target by breaking them in battle.

Also at night, Moonlight Judgment automatically triggers at the start of any battle which blinds enemies, lowering their accuracy and in turn safeguarding the party from attacks. When Temenos' power gauge is full, he can also use an ability called Judgement, meaning that all of his attacks will lower enemy Shield Points and leave the door open for some hefty damage-dealing. Octopath Traveler's Cleric Ophilia was a powerful party member with effective moves like the Support Skill Saving Grace, so fans are probably expecting Temenos to have just as many tricks up his sleeves to help turn the tide of battle.

Octopath Traveler 2 launches February 24, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
