Quick Links
If you check the various armorers in the tier-three areas of Octopath Traveler 2, you'll find plenty of weapons and shields that can carry you through the final chapters of the game. However, the game also features several rare weapons and armor that you won't find at any store.
The "Battle-Tested" equipment is an important part of that second category. Octopath Traveler 2 features a Battle-Tested weapon of every type, plus a Battle-Tested Shield. There are two ways to get each item, but neither method is fast.

Octopath Traveler 2: How to Beat Mother
The only way for Throne to gain her freedom will be by beating Mother and Father, the two antagonists of her storyline in Octopath Traveler 2.
Battle-Tested Blade
Physical Attack | +400 |
---|---|
Critical | +120 |
Equip Effect | Physical skills deal extra damage |
Obtain From | Bandelam the Reaper |
Farm From | Young Man in Tropu'hopu |
The owner of the Battle-Tested Blade is Bandelam the Reaper, an important character in Hikari's story. After Hikari's story ends, you can find Bandelam on a cliff that overlooks the docks of Crackridge Harbor: Anchorage. He doesn't say anything, but he also doesn't move from this spot day or night. This means you can acquire the Battle-Tested Blade from him using whichever Path Action you prefer.
The other way to get a Battle-Tested Blade is to fight a Young Man in Tropu'hopu. This Young Man has Strength 10, making him far from an easy fight even near the end of the game, and he only provides a two percent chance of dropping the Blade after each fight. During the day, the Young Man is standing to the left of the Cat Connoisseur. At night, you can find him in the hut that's back and to the right of the Tropu'hopu save point. Keep in mind that the high Strength and low drop odds are also true for the NPCs mentioned below.
Battle-Tested Spear
Physical Attack | +390 |
---|---|
Critical | +120 |
Attack Effect | Slim chance to blind target |
Obtain From | Benkei |
Farm From | Townsperson in Sai |
You'll find the Battle-Tested Spear with another NPC from Hikari's story. Specifically, you need to look for Benkei, who stands by the throne of Castle Ku during the day and is to the left of the Castle Ku entrance at night.
To farm extra Battle-Tested Spears, you'll need to find a Townsperson NPC in Sai. He stands to the left of the town entrance during the day, and he moves to the Sandflow Pass exit at night. He has black hair and a mustache, and he wears a white scarf. His Strength is 8, making him easier to beat than the Young Man.

Octopath Traveler 2: A Guide to Caits
Caits and octopuffs are great ways to get experience in Octopath Traveler 2, but first you'll need to find and defeat them.
Battle-Tested Dagger
Physical Attack | +380 |
---|---|
Evasion | +120 |
Attack Effect | Slim chance to reduce target's accuracy |
Obtain From | Plukk |
Farm From | Elderly Man in Clockbank |
While the Spear and Blade are both associated with Hikari's story, the Battle-Tested Dagger comes from completing Castti's tale. You'll also need to complete the side story "Melia's Next Chapter," which is a short epilogue for several characters from Castti's story.
Once you meet all these conditions, you can find the Battle-Tested Dagger on the reformed rogue named Plukk. During the day, you'll find Plukk in the greenhouse next to Melia's mansion in Winterbloom. At night, Plukk hangs out in the run-down tavern in Winterbloom: Thieves' Quarters.
Your farming opportunity is an NPC called "Elderly Man" in Clockbank. To reach him, you'll need to head into the tavern, go up the stairs, and knock out the Traveler blocking the door to the balcony. The Elderly Man doesn't show up on the balcony in the tavern's internal view, but he'll be there once you exit the building. The Elderly Man is Strength 9, and you can only find him during the day. This means you can only use the Path Actions Provoke and Challenge to try and get the Battle-Tested Dagger drop.
Battle-Tested Axe
Physical Attack | +400 |
---|---|
Elemental Attack | +250 |
Equip Effect | Ice and Lightning attacks deal extra damage |
Obtain From | Shirlutto |
Farm From | Villager in Cape Cold |
The NPC with the Battle-Tested Axe is from Temenos's story. Shirlutto is a beastling from the Nameless Village in Toto'haha, and after Temenos confronts his villain you can find her standing by the entrance to the Wandering Wood. She stays in this location day and night.
Your other source of Battle-Tested Axes is a Villager in Cape Cold. You'll find him standing in front of the tavern, and his Strength is 8. Like Shirlutto, this Villager never moves no matter what time it is.
Battle-Tested Bow
Physical Attack | +390 |
---|---|
Critical | +120 |
Attack Effect | Slim chance to reduce target's Physical Defense |
Obtain From | Cohazeh |
Farm From | Tutor in New Delsta |
Complete Ochette's story to speak to Cohazeh, who spends her time in the human side of Beasting Village. During the day, she stands by the crops, while at night she spends her time in her personal hut at the back end of the village.
Your source for additional bows is the Tutor NPC in New Delsta. During the day, you'll find her just to the left of the inn. She only seems to appear during the day, and her Strength rating is 9.

Octopath Traveler 2: Full Map and Location Guide
While the map in Octopath Traveler 2 is very helpful, you need to find each location before it appears. If it's not, you can use this guide.
Battle-Tested Staff
Physical Attack | +200 |
---|---|
Elemental Attack | +400 |
Attack Effect | Slim chance to reduce target's Speed |
Obtain From | Roque |
Farm From | Cleric in Canalbrine |
Roque becomes somewhat reformed after you finish Partitio's story, and he ends up back in Oresrush, starting from the bottom once more. He holds the Battle-Tested Staff, and you'll find him in front of Papp's house during the day and on the top floor of Papp's house at night.
The other source of Battle-Tested Staves is a Cleric in Canalbrine. This Cleric stands behind the altar of the Canalbrine church during the day, and she stands in the leftmost room of the church at night. You'll know which one it is, because she's the only Cleric with a Strength of 10.
Battle-Tested Shield
Physical Defense | +120 |
---|---|
Elemental Defense | +120 |
Equip Effect | Recover HP and SP after every action |
Obtain From | Veronica |
Farm From | Guard in Montwise |
There is no Battle-Tested Armor in Octopath Traveler 2, so the last item on this list is the Battle-Tested Shield held by Veronica. After you complete Agnea's story, you can find her to the left of the inn in New Delsta, where she's waiting for you to start the side story "Veronica's New Chapter." After that's done, you'll find both her and Dolcinaea in the New Delsta: Theater area. Just head straight forward towards the stage to find them, day or night.
The other source of Battle-Tested Shields is a Guard NPC in Montwise. During the day, he stands between the town entrance and the save point, while at night you can find him in the tavern. He has a Strength of 9, so don't take him lightly.
Once you collect at least one of every Battle-Tested item, you'll get the achievement "Battle-Tested Gear." But even without the achievement, you'll have a full set of weapons that will serve you well against the endgame boss and any optional bosses you decide to challenge.
