There are two advanced jobs in Octopath Traveler 2 that don't gain skills the way every other job does: the Inventor and the Armsmaster. Instead of spending JP to gain new skills and unlock support buffs, the only way to fully unlock these jobs is by finding items in the world and bringing them back to the job giver.

In the case of the Armsmaster, you need to find the six rusty weapons scattered across the world and bring them back to the blacksmith Porta in Gravell. Doing so will let any character in Octopath Traveler 2 wield all the abilities of the Armsmaster.

Octopath Traveler 2: Full Map and Location Guide

While the map in Octopath Traveler 2 is very helpful, you need to find each location before it appears. If it's not, you can use this guide.

How to Find Porta

Octopath Traveler 2 Porta

Before you can restore the rusty weapons or complete the Armsmaster job, you'll need to find and speak to the blacksmith named Porta. Porta is in Gravell, which is the tier-three town of the Wildlands. You can reach the town by heading north from the Western Crackridge Wilds, but make sure your party can handle a Danger Level 45 first. Unlike the first and second tiers, the tier-three areas only ever have one danger rating.

Once you're in Gravell, look for an NPC called "Debt Collector." He's standing in front of a door day and night, and you'll need to knock him down. Your options include:

  • Provoke or Challenge (Strength 6)
  • Soothe (1 Slumber Sage)
  • Ambush (Level 30)

Unlike with other NPCs who block your path, the Debt Collector will permanently relocate to inside the smithy after you knock him out once and speak to the "Retired Blacksmith" NPC inside. Doing so will start the Side Story "In Search of the Divine Weapons." After you bring the blacksmith a rusty weapon, Porta will restore it and give your party access to the secret Armsmaster job.

An important note is that the Armsmaster must have each Divine Weapon equipped to use each skill. If you equip a different weapon, the corresponding skill will be unavailable. Luckily, each skill has the weapon's name in it, so you shouldn't have trouble finding the right weapon if you make this mistake.

Where to Find the Rusty Sword

Octopath Traveler 2 Winterlands Sword in Stone

True Name

Conqueror's Sword

Physical Attack

+200

Attack Effect

+250 Physical Attack against Broken foes

Skill

Cosmic Roar: deal Sword damage to one target at the end of the round; does extra damage the longer you wait

Location

Winterbloom

The Rusty Sword is the subject of a Side Story called "The Sword in the Stone." You can start it by heading east from the entrance to Winterbloom and speaking to the NPC standing by the sword. There are two ways to complete this story:

  • Use three characters to collect three NPC followers. You may need four followers if your protagonist is one of the four who can obtain a follower.
  • Procure the Sturdy Pickaxe item from the Retired Miner in Oresrush. This NPC hangs out in the armorer shop both day and night.

Once you meet either condition, you'll clear the quest and earn the Rusty Sword, along with other rewards.

Where to Find the Rusty Polearm

Octopath Traveler 2 Timberain Guard

True Name

Warlord's Spear

Physical Attack

+310

Attack Effect

Gain BP when your attack defeats an enemy

Skill

Giant Swing: deal Polearm damage to all enemies; does extra damage when more enemies are on the field

Location

Timberain Castle: Town Square

The Rusty Polearm is sitting in a normal chest, but reaching this chest can be tricky. First, you'll need to go left from the entrance to the Timberain Castle: Town Square area and take the stairs down. Follow the path north to encounter a guard standing in front of a green door. Like with the Debt Collector, you'll need to knock out this Elderly Soldier with a path action.

  • Provoke or Challenge (Strength 8)
  • Soothe (2 Herbs of Serenity)
  • Ambush (Level 48)

Once he's down, enter the room behind him and look for a doorway on the right wall. Head through and keep going right as your party walks behind the scenery. Eventually, you'll end up on a balcony by the river. The Rusty Polearm is in a chest on this balcony.

Where to Find the Rusty Dagger

Octopath Traveler 2 Shipwreck

True Name

Dancer's Blade

Physical Attack

+300

Attack Effect

Slim chance to afflict target with poison, blindness, confusion, or sleep

Skill

Mischievous Step: deal Dagger damage to at least 3 foes at random; more foes mean more random attacks

Location

Shipwreck of the Empress

The Rusty Dagger is in a more straightforward location. The Shipwreck of the Empress is an optional dungeon you can only reach after you buy your own ship, which you can get by completing the "Scent of Commerce" story in Tropu'hopu: Shipyard. The Shipwreck of the Empress is east of Crackridge Harbor: Anchorage, and it has a Danger Level of 48.

At the far end of the dungeon, you'll find two important chests. The one inside the lower room contains an item you need to unlock a license for the Thief guild, while the one behind the skeleton holds the Rusty Dagger.

Where to Find the Rusty Axe

Octopath Traveler 2 Quicksand Gaol

True Name

Lionheart's Axe

Physical Attack

+320

Attack Effect

Raises max HP during battle

Skill

On the Hunt: deals Axe damage to one foe 2 times; the second blow deals more damage based on the number of revealed weaknesses

Location

Quicksand Gaol

The Rusty Axe is in another optional dungeon. This one is in the Quicksand Gaol, which has a much lower Danger Level of 30. To reach the Quicksand Gaol, get to Western Sai Sands, head north of the oasis, and then follow the path west until you end up in the Gaol.

The Quicksand Gaol is a small area, but you'll need to beat the Lord of the Sands boss to open the chest with the axe inside. On the bright side, killing the Lord of the Sands will also earn you an item you need to unlock a Hunter job license.

Here are some quick tips for beating this boss:

  • Its HP is 40,000.
  • It has 7 Shields, and its weaknesses are Swords, Daggers, Axes, Ice, and Light.
  • It can use the skill "Cry for Help" to summon two regular Desert Worms. These worms lock two of the Lord of the Sands' weaknesses each, aside from Light.
  • Desert Worms are weak to Polearms, Axes, Wind, and Light.

Where to Find the Rusty Bow

Octopath Traveler 2 Sinking Ruins

True Name

Hunter's Bow

Physical Attack

+312

Attack Effect

Slim chance to reduce a random attribute

Skill

Flurry of Arrows: deal Bow damage to all foes; triggers again (and again) if the skill Breaks a foe

Location

Sinking Ruins

The Rusty Bow is easily the hardest of the Divine Weapons to get. Not only do you have to search the Sinking Ruins, an optional dungeon with a Danger Level of 48, you also need to defeat the boss at the end.

To reach the Sinking Ruins, you'll need to start in the Southern Nameless Village Traverse. Enter the large wetland, then look for the dock that's at the western edge of the water. Follow the path up and then down to enter the Sinking Ruins dungeon. Once you're in the ruins, keep moving west to eventually encounter the Behemoth.

The Behemoth:

  • Has 8 Shields and is weak to Polearms, Axes, Bows, and Ice.
  • Can use the skill Petrifying Spell, which can permanently knock out a character if you don't have Herb-of-Grace Buds.
  • Tends to target petrified party members, and can power up after doing so.

If you manage to knock out the Behemoth for good, you can open the chest behind it to get the Rusty Bow.

Where to Find the Rusty Staff

Octopath Traveler 2 Seat of the Water Sprite

True Name

Spiritlord's Staff

Physical Attack

+160

Elemental Attack

+320

Attack Effect

Recover SP equal to 1 percent of the damage dealt

Skill

Deliverance: deal Staff damage to one foe; damage is based on Elemental Attack, not Physical Attack

Location

Seat of the Water Sprite

Compared to the other weapons on this list, the Rusty Staff is a breeze to collect. It's in an optional dungeon called the Seat of the Water Sprite, but the Danger Level is 26 and there's no boss to stop you.

To reach the Seat of the Water Sprite, head to the Borderfall area between Montwise and Flamechurch. Go to the east side of the waterfall bridge and take the two ladders down to the dock. From the dock, you can head north through the waterfall to enter the Seat of the Water Sprite.

Once you're in the dungeon, head as far north as you can until you spot a long ladder that goes down. From the base of the ladder, go south until you find the chest with the Rusty Staff inside.

Other Armsmaster Rewards

Octopath Traveler 2 Lionhearts Axe

As you recover rusty weapons and reforge them into divine weapons, you gain access to the Armsmaster's Support Skills. And since you don't unlock Armsmaster skills with JP (just like the Inventor job), every character gets access to every Armsmaster Support Skill at the same time. They are:

Master of Offense

Character deals more Critical hits on Broken foes

Peak Performance

Character deals extra damage while at (or above) max HP

Invigorating Break

Character regains HP when Breaking a foe

Arms Refinement

Character gains Latent Power when striking weak points

Here are some other useful pointers:

  • Each Divine Weapon's attack effect goes off when you use its corresponding skill. For instance, the skill Deliverance also restores your Armsmaster's SP.
  • When you complete "In Search of Divine Weapons," Porta gives you the Wise King's Shield. You don't need this shield for any skill, but it's good enough to be part of your Armsmaster's endgame equipment.
  • Any character can wield the Divine Weapons, but they aren't quite as good as other endgame weapons. You need to use the Armsmaster skills to make up the difference.
