Fast travel in Octopath Traveler 2 is quick and easy, but it only works to reach locations you've already visited. Every map region you haven't visited yet appears as a brown blob, and you'll need to explore to uncover everything.
Fortunately, you can still spot locations you need to reach for character chapters by looking around for green towns. However, this indicator doesn't let you know where all the important shrines and guilds are. To find them, you'll either need to explore every corner of every region, or rely on a map guide for Octopath Traveler 2 that can point you in the right direction.

Exploration Tips
- The fast travel system in Octopath Traveler 2 is very generous. So long as you aren't progressing through a chapter, you can teleport to any town or ferry anchorage you've visited at least once before. Fast travel works in the middle of fields, towns, and dungeons.
- Even if your party isn't strong enough to handle a higher-tier field or dungeon, you should at least step into the entrance of every area you find. Doing so makes them appear on your map, and they'll be easier to find later.
- Keep in mind that not every part of a Land connects to the rest of the Land. For instance, Oresrush is isolated from the rest of the Wildlands, and the tier three region of the Harborlands is on an island.
- Every guild for the basic jobs and every altar is in a tier-two region. The jobs correspond to the starting Land of each character: this means the Apothecary guild and altar are in the Harborlands, the Hunter guild and altar are in Toto'haha, and so on.
- The tier-one and tier-two fields start out at low levels, but they increase in Danger Level as you level up, gather more party members, and complete more chapters. However, tier-three fields and every dungeon (story and optional) have a static Danger Level.
- Story dungeons always branch off from towns. Optional dungeons always branch off from field regions.
- Many optional dungeons have a Side Story associated with them. However, even those that don't are worth exploring thanks to the rare and unique items they hide inside.

Players need to absolutely avoid these mistakes while playing Octopath Traveler 2.
Sundering Sea
Unlike the regular regions of Octopath Traveler 2, the Sundering Sea has a static Danger Level of 34. This number doesn't go up or down based on the area you're in. Also, you can't explore any part of the Sundering Sea until you've completed the Scent of Commerce story that begins in Tropu'hopu. To do so, bring Partitio to the Shipyard east of the main village (and start saving up 100,000 leaves).
