While Cape Cold isn't where Osvald's story begins, the scholar gets a taste of the freedom he's wanted for five years. It's a remote location to start a story in Octopath Traveler 2, but it's still lively enough to have its own set of side stories.

Unlike most other starting regions in Octopath Traveler 2, only one of the side quests begins in town. To find the other one, players will need to explore the surrounding area. This second quest is a bit tougher, but in exchange, the reward is much higher.

The Baby's Coming Guide

Octopath Traveler 2 Baby's Coming

Players will spot the Flustered Villager front and center in Cape Cold. His wife's pregnancy is entering its final stages, but the town's midwife went to Flamechurch on a pilgrimage. Fortunately, there's no actual timing to this side story, so players can take as long as they like to wander around before heading to Flamechurch for the midwife.

The Midwife is also very easy to find. She's staying at the Flamechurch inn, and she doesn't move around at all. Use any means to make her a follower (Allure, Guide, Hire, or Befriend), then fast-travel to Cape Cold.

Speak to the Flustered Villager with the Midwife in the active party, and she'll get straight to work, and the party will get 3,000 leaves and a Nourishing Nut. Players will still see the villager around, but his new name is First-Time Father.

Ruffians' Redoubt Guide

Octopath Traveler 2 Ruffians' Redoubt

Head to the main crossroads of the Eastern Cape Cold Snows area to find a Peddler. Unlike most Peddlers in the game, this one has nothing to sell and is instead complaining about the bandits who keep attacking him. They seem to be based out of a stronghold to the east, and so that's where players need to go.

However, first, players will need to get past a bandit NPC who's barring the way. Knockdown actions (Challenge, Provoke, Soothe, and Ambush) can all work on him, but players can also bypass him completely by getting on a boat and sailing into the Ruffians' Hideout area. Using the river will start the party closer to the three Bandits they need to defeat.

With that said, players should keep in mind that the Ruffians' Hideout has a danger level of 14, and Octopath Traveler 2 enemies in this area are a step up from starting area foes. The Bandits themselves are slightly tougher than the random enemies, so players should wait until they have a full party with at least 10 levels each before attacking them.

Once the bandits are down, they'll give up their life of crime, and the thankful Peddler will give the party 6,000 leaves and the Peddler's Feathered Cap. The cap's stats aren't too amazing, but it can prevent the sleep condition.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
