Like many other RPGs, Octopath Traveler 2 has plenty of side quests and stories that have nothing to do with the main storyline. These quests are much easier to complete than the main chapters, but the rewards for doing so can be substantial.

Canalbrine is one of the game's starting areas, where the protagonist Castti begins her story. It also hosts several side stories, and while all of them are straightforward, some are more difficult to complete than others. Here are the three side stories players can find in town and what players need to do to complete them.

Waiting All Day and Night Side Story

Octopath Traveler 2 Harborlands Waiting

Players will encounter someone called a Waiting Youth sitting on the terrace by the Canalbrine Tavern. Get his information to learn he's waiting for his brother, and like many side-story NPCs in Octopath Traveler 2, he'll stick around in the same place whether it's day or night.

Except he won't. Players who look closely (or get the nighttime Waiting Youth's info) will notice that there are actually two NPCs here, one waiting during the day and one waiting at night. To fix this situation, players should recruit one of the two brothers (any method can work) and then switch between day and night. Speak to the other brother, and the two will finally meet face-to-face. The quest reward is 3,000 leaves, a Magic Nut, and an Empowering Lychee.

Traveler's Lost and Found Side Story

Octopath Traveler 2 Harborlands Lost and Found

On the bridge just up from the save point is a Young Traveler who has misplaced something important on his journey. He's worried he might have lost it somewhere in the Brightlands or Toto'haha, and he's too panicked to go back and check.

Players can track down his lost possession for him by taking the ferry in town to Toto'haha. Someone called Ferry Staff is on the dock in the Anchorage and mentions how they keep lost possessions safe in case their owners come back. Check her possessions to find a valuable called a Bottle of White Powder, and use any means available to get it from her. Bring the bottle back to the Young Traveler to hear why it's so important, and get 400 leaves and a Critical Nut (M) for the trouble.

Lighthouse Restoration Side Story

Octopath Traveler 2 Harborlands Lighthouse

This side story is the hardest in Canalbrine to complete, but the reward makes up for the effort. The Town Lighthouse Keeper is worried about a broken reflector, and he can't spare the time to go find a new one. He suspects another lighthouse might have a spare, but there are no lighthouses in the other starting towns.

Instead, players will need to get a ship and go visit Lighthouse Island. To get a ship, players must recruit Partitio, gather 100,000 leaves, and then complete the Scent of Commerce side story in Tropu'hopu. With all that done, players should fast-travel to the New Delsta Harbor: Anchorage area and sail their ship north, up to the island just west of Frigit Isle.

The ocean's danger level is 34, but the trip is just short enough that players can reach Lighthouse Island without triggering a random encounter.

Thankfully, the island itself is safe, and the lighthouse keeper has an Aelmorite Reflector in his possessions. However, players can only get it by using Purchase or Entreat because Mug and Steal won't work.

With all that done, players can fast-travel back to Canalbrine and give the Keeper the reflector. The reward for doing so is 12,000 leaves, a Lighthouse Keeper's Bandana, and a Tough Nut (L).

Octopath Traveler 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
