Lead game directors for Obsidian Entertainment, the developers of Fallout: New Vegas, have gone on the record to state their interest in seeing a graphical remaster of the hit 2010 game. Obsidian has not worked on a title in this franchise since Fallout: New Vegas, and it's currently working on the sequel to The Outer Worlds, but the team would clearly like to work with Bethesda to bring the classic to the current gen.
The Fallout community hasn't gotten much news about new installments to the franchise in recent years. Ever since the Xbox acquisition of Bethesda, things have been quiet outside of some updates for Fallout 76. This interest in a modern Fallout: New Vegas sadly doesn't come from any official source that would be able to verify that it's coming, but rather from the studio that many would like to see handle the remaster of the fan-favorite game.
Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, the lead game directors at Obsidian, are currently promoting the release of The Outer World's: Spacer's Choice Edition. When the topic of New Vegas' lasting fanbase comes up in a recent interview, Cain proposes the idea of a remaster of the game, to which Boyarsky responds that it "would be awesome." Neither Cain nor Boyarsky were with Obsidian at the time that the company was developing Fallout: New Vegas, however, both were developers for Fallout 2, and Boyarsky was one of the original creators of Fallout while working at Interplay Entertainment. When talking about bringing the wild Mojave Wasteland to Xbox Series X/S, it makes the most sense for players to want to see the people that originally made the masterpiece give it the update it deserves. However, barring that, having two of the people who laid the foundations to make Fallout what it is today is not a bad substitute.
Bethesda is currently hard at work on Fallout 5, along with still giving regular updates to the ever-tumultuous Fallout 76, and no one at the company has given any type of public response to this interest in a New Vegas remaster just yet. But it's far from an impossibility, and if the fan response to a teaser like this is strong enough, it could be hard for a major studio like Bethesda to turn a blind eye.
As of right now, though, this interest from Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky seems like little more than a "wouldn't it be cool if" scenario. Overall, it's just the desires of two veteran game developers without any concrete confirmations to back it up. It's been a long time since any information on a new Fallout game came to the public, though, so maybe something will soon bubble to the surface, or maybe there's a lot longer still to wait. Right now, it seems like Bethesda is far more focused on major titles like Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5.
