At long last, the PS5 has finally launched, and slowly but surely, members of the gaming community are finally getting their hands on the next-gen system. One game that many can look forward to playing on launch day is Observer: System Redux, an upgraded and expanded version of the original Observer that is being released exclusively for next-gen that utilizes a number of the PS5's hardware capabilities.

Observer was developed by Bloober Team after the studio finished up work on Layers of Fear. The game relies heavily on its setting and gameplay mechanics in order to elicit terror and unease from the player. Although, now with System Redux, it seems that the game will be leaning into some of the PS5's unique controller mechanics.

Last week, Bloober Team put out a video that showcased Observer's gameplay on the PS5, but the video didn't exactly reveal how the game would utilize the PS5's unique controller features. However, earlier today, Bloober Team released a video that goes into further detail in terms of how certain controller features would act during gameplay.

The trailer takes the viewer through gameplay step by step and shows what happens when the player makes any kind of action or movement within the game. Just by running alone, the controller will start to vibrate. If the player attempts to open a locked door the right trigger will resist and vibrate. This showcases the adaptive triggers featured on the PS5 DualSense controller.

When mechanics like PS5 controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers were first introduced, for many players it was sort of hard to understand how those kinds of mechanics would apply to gameplay. For months, these features have only been discussed on paper, but in practice, it really is impressive to see how these features are utilized in a practical sense and this video does a great job of showing players what to expect.

In any case, it will be interesting to see just how developers plan to utilize these mechanics in the future. It's already easy to imagine indie developers creating PS5 exclusive titles whose game mechanics revolve entirely around haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. One person has already managed to recreate music from DOOM using haptic feedback in a PS5 controller. With the PS5 having launched only today, it will be exciting to see where these mechanics are taken in the future.

Observer: System Redux is available now for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S.
