Nvidia recently showed off the ray tracing capabilities of its DLSS 3.5 upscaling tech in a new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. DLSS 3.5 (Deep Learning Super Sampling) was released on September 21, just in time for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty to demonstrate its improved visuals and technical performance. DLSS 3.5 offers Ray Reconstruction tech that enhances the clarity and quality of reflections, global illumination, and lighting, and Nvidia RTX 40 series cards can utilize AI-based Frame Generation for virtually double the framerate in games like Star Wars Outlaws.

Ubisoft announced that it was working on an open-world Star Wars game back in 2021, but it wouldn’t be until the Xbox Games Showcase last June that fans got to see Star Wars Outlaws in action. Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws puts players in the role of an aspiring scoundrel named Kay Vess as she tries to pull off the biggest heist in the history of the Outer Rim against the powerful Zerek Besh crime syndicate. To do so, she and her allies will have to explore classic Star Wars worlds and make shaky alliances with the cartels that control them.

Star Wars Outlaws' Nix Interactions Could Make for an Epic Combat Sequence

Star Wars Outlaws' Nix is a new companion with useful abilities, and one of these abilities could provide an epic combat sequence.

Developer Massive Entertainment is pulling out all the stops to recreate the look and feel of the rugged Outer Rim in Star Wars Outlaws, and a new trailer from NVIDIA GeForce demonstrates how DLSS. 3.5 will factor into this on PC. Said trailer shows various Star Wars Outlaws landscapes being rendered with RTX enabled before comparing two scenes with and without DLSS 3.5’s AI-enhanced Ray Reconstruction turned on. The differences can be difficult to spot at first, but it appears that the reflections on the floors are more refined with Ray Reconstruction, and the lighting reflected on a ceiling seems to fluctuate unnaturally without it.

Star Wars Outlaws Trailer Demonstrates Nvidia DLSS 3.5’s Ray Reconstruction

As mentioned before, Ray Reconstruction is just one of the many enhancements allowed through Nvidia’s DLSS 3.5 technology. Super Resolution can improve texture quality by creating up to four times the original number of pixels and doubling the vertical and horizontal resolution lines during gameplay, resulting in better-looking worlds in games like Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and Alan Wake 2. Of course, these results largely require some trial and error from the player, and features like the aforementioned Frame Generation are only available on RTX 40 series graphics cards.

More games are now taking advantage of Nvidia’s AI-enhanced DLSS 3.5 technology for improved graphics and performance, including the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. PC gamers with the requisite hardware will be able to blast into Star Wars Outlaws with DLSS 3.5 when the game launches on August 30.
