  • Nvidia may be planning a hardware refresh for some of its higher-end graphics cards, including the GeForce RTX 4070, 4070 Ti, and 4080, according to a reliable leaker.
  • The refresh, if true, aims to improve on Nvidia's already high-performing technology and would mark the first SUPER refresh for a Ti card.
  • While skepticism is warranted until official announcements are made, potential price cuts and improved performance from the mid-series update could impact Nvidia's lineup and make it an exciting time for PC gamers.

According to a new leak, Nvidia may be prepping a refresh for at least three of the company's higher-end graphics cards. If correct the hardware update would affect a few of the Nvidia 40 series graphic cards. This latest series of Nvidia graphics cards launched in October 2022.

Nvidia already produces a number of the best graphics cards currently available on the market, so any potential hardware refresh would look to improve on the industry leader's already high-performing technology. According to one historically accurate leaker, that's exactly what Nvidia is planning to do.

Reliable hardware leaker Hongxing2020 is claiming Nvidia may be introducing the SUPER refresh to at least three of its existing graphics cards: the GeForce RTX 4070, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, and the GeForce RTX 4080. The "SUPER" moniker has historically been used by Nvidia to indicate mid-series updates for multiple SKUs. However, this would mark the first time Nvidia has created a SUPER refresh for a Ti card if the leak turns out to be true.

There is plenty of room for skepticism here as the leaker has been wrong before. So, while their recent track record suggests reliability, there is still reason to take this leak with a grain of salt until official announcements are made by Nvidia. Also, no word has been given as to when these mid-series updates are slated to roll out, but more information is likely to come if and when these reports do start to materialize.

The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX® 4080 OC Edition brings the Strix's badge to Nvidia's RTX 4080 lineup. With what is arguably the best-in-class cooler in the market right now with a design that exudes quiet power, the Strix RTX 4080 is the endgame when it comes to premium RTX 4080

If a refresh does happen, perhaps this will mean price cuts for some of the existing cards in Nvidia's lineup. Nvidia's RTX 4070 did finally see a price cut recently, however, the Founders Edition still remains at its $600 price point. For comparison, the RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti have both seen discounts long before the RTX 4070.

Another interesting aspect of this leak is the potential RTX 4080 SUPER. The debate between the Nvidia RTX 4080 versus the RTX 4090 skews toward the latter in most cases, but perhaps the SUPER could help tilt things in the 4080's favor if price points change or if performance is boosted enough by the mid-series update.

On top of any potential updates, Nvidia officially announced and launched DLSS 3.5 for RTX GPUs. The proprietary Nvidia technology DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) offers players the ability to enhance image quality by doubling frame rates and improving resolution. Computer gaming technology is seemingly always progressing quickly, but this fall, in particular, feels like an exciting time to be a PC gamer with all the potential updates and exciting new titles.
