Whenever Nvidia and AMD release new products, it can be expected that reviewers will run the two side by side to see which will be better in terms of performance. Take the RTX 3050 and RX 6500 XT comparisons as a recent example. It's even expected that either company will display an upcoming piece of hardware and show how it compares to its own previous model. However, what's perhaps not often expected is for a new or upcoming graphics cards to be compared to something that is not only older, but is not even part of the same generation.

Recently, a few people took to Twitter to ridicule Nvidia over its upcoming budget card. The mockery comes not from the card itself, but from the fact that the company, on its own website, is comparing the not-yet-released RTX 3050 to its own GTX 1050 and GTX 1650. While the latter came out in 2019, the former came out in 2016, which means at this point, it's more than five years old. The result is that a number of people have been poking fun at the company for such a disparate comparison.

The chart on the website even shows the performance results of all three. Two of the credentials show results for when the cards have Nvidia's ray tracing RTX turned on, something that neither of the GTX cards even have. One Twitter user even designed their own mock-up chart, which shows the RTX 3050 against pretty much all the roster of GTX cards. It jokingly shows that the 3050 massively outperforms all the others, which show zero results for RTX "on."

With Nvidia about to launch the RTX 3050, it will provide consumers with a more budget graphics card, similar to AMD which recently launched the RX 6500 XT. It's difficult for people to know exactly how the card will perform when the official website only shows it in comparison to products that are several years old at this point. It's understandable that some may be a little baffled by this.

While team green has made plans to bring back some of its older GPUs, such as a relaunch of the GTX 1650, generally the market is ideally looking to go forward, especially with the next generation of graphics card technology looming ahead. In any case, for whatever reason, Nvidia felt it was necessary to show how its upcoming RTX 3050 stacks up against a couple of other cards that the world has pretty much moved on from since.
