Monster Hunter: World has proven to be a very strong release for Capcom, with the title being critically acclaimed and reaching a number of significant company sales milestones in its first few weeks of availability. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that the game was recently revealed to be February’s top-selling title.

On Tuesday, industry-tracking firm, The NPD Group released February’s video game sales numbers, revealing Monster: Hunter World to be the highest-selling game of February 2018; a feat the title was also able to accomplish for January.

Other titles within the top ten of NPD’s best-seller list for February include (from 2-10):

  • Call of Duty: WWII
  • NBA 2K18
  • Dragon Ball: FighterZ
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • EA Sports UFC 3
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

Earlier this month, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter: World had grown to become the company’s best-selling game ever, with the title selling a total of 7.5 million units in the five weeks since its release in January. The publisher went on further to state that the title was largely an unexpected hit, with the game reaching its first-year sales target within two weeks of release.

It will be interesting to see how Monster Hunter: World will fare in terms of sales during March 2018, with a number of highly-anticipated titles, such as Far Cry 5, Sea of Thieves and A Way Out all being released throughout the month. With high-level of competition introduced by these new titles, it does seem somewhat unlikely that the game will be able to maintain the spot of the month's best-selling game.

Alternatively, Capcom’s much-noted continued support for the title could lead to the game retaining its current sales pace, but this remains to be seen. Even if Monster Hunter: World does see a drop in sales figures next month, Capcom is likely to see these number rise again when the highly-praised title eventually makes its way to PC.

Monster Hunter: World is available now on PS4 and Xbox One. A PC release is planned for the second half of 2018.
