There are some big games releasing for the Switch this Summer. Among them is the latest entry in Grasshopper Manufacture's long-running cult hit series, No More Heroes 3.
With a flashy trailer and a legacy unlike most trilogy cappers, No More Heroes 3 is set to draw players new and old to the No More Heroes franchise. As such, many players who want to get into the series for the first time may well pick up the first two games. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is the second title in the series and more ambitious than the first, so here's a quick lowdown on how long it takes to beat.
How Long Does No More Heroes 2 Take to Beat?
The gameplay loop of No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is mostly similar to No More Heroes, and the two aren't too far apart in terms of total game length. The original No More Heroes takes 11 hours on average to beat, with minimal extras, which isn't too long. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle cuts the fat from the gameplay a bit by no longer requiring the player to pay for the honor of challenging a boss and their goons. Instead, there are just more bosses. As a result, the main story goes down in about eight hours for most people.
Of course, not everyone stops at beating the main story. With more levels than the original and even more bosses to perfect, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle has its fair share of extras to add on to the main quest. With a reasonable amount of extras it comes to about 11 hours. However, full completionists will find it a bit more of a struggle, coming in at somewhere around 15 and a half hours. These figures are from Howlongtobeat, which mostly polled those who played on the Wii, so with No More Heroes 2 now on PC, the numbers may soon shift a bit.
Altogether, this averages out to 10 hours to beat, slightly less than the original. Considering more of the gameplay consists of full on levels instead of fundraising, thus incentivizing players to push through the game quicker, it's not too surprising. This change in approach, along with the new story, make up some of the arguments concerning which game is better between No More Heroes1 and 2.
Of course, it's likely feasible for players to skip No More Heroes 2 altogether and go straight to No More Heroes 3 since these games are light on story continuity. With a cool opening cutscene and some gameplay revealed, No More Heroes 3 looks attractive, but playing through two older games to get to it might not be on some players' to do list.
