Hello Games released the Interceptor update for No Man’s Sky, introducing a variety of new features, from powerful corrupted enemies to defeat to new starships and technologies. Interceptor is No Man’s Sky update 4.2 and adds more content for players to discover on their journey across the stars.

Following a rocky launch in 2016, No Man’s Sky redeemed itself through the release of various updates bringing additional content for players to keep on exploring space, meet alien species, and build their own base. In late February 2023, Hello Games released the Fractal update for No Man’s Sky, adding PS VR2 support as well as a brand new expedition titled Utopia requiring players to rebuild an abandoned solar system for the mysterious Utopia Foundation.

A few days after the end of the Utopia expedition, No Man’s Sky released a new major update, Interceptor. It introduces corrupted worlds, purple-hazed planets filled with Sentinel enemy forces and new resources for those brave enough to face the corrupted Sentinels. Players can now add custom wonders to the Wonders Catalogue introduced in the Fractal update when they are not busy uncovering the secrets from the corrupted worlds. The Interceptor update 4.2 for No Man’s Sky also brings new starship and salvaged Multi-Tool classes, as well as various gameplay improvements and bug fixes. This Interceptor update comes one day after No Man’s Sky developer Sean Murray teased a cryptic clue on social media, leading fans to hope for the upcoming announcement of additional content. This update takes its name from the new hostile Sentinel Interceptor starships, a new class of ships players can collect and customize with a new array of core technologies. The Sentinel Interceptor starships have a unique cockpit and flight model, with the ability to hover that other ships don’t have.

Following the release of the Interceptor update for No Man’s Sky, players are now waiting for a new expedition and its exclusive rewards. These time-limited events come with various challenges for players to complete and a new story to discover. No Man’s Sky will have a new competitor in 2023, as Bethesda’s Starfield is expected to release in September with the promise of exploring thousands of stars and discovering a deep story. While Starfield should keep the core RPG elements of previous Bethesda franchises Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, No Man’s Sky focuses on offering an immersive exploration simulation across an infinity of procedurally-generated planets.

No Man's Sky is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
