No Man's Sky, despite its nature as a Space Exploration and Survival Game, lacked a way for players to customize their ships at launch. As of the Orbital Update, however, this has changed and players can finally create their ideal ship to explore the universe.

No Man's Sky: Orbital allows players to assemble and customize ships, using parts acquired from scrapping spare ships or, in one case, purchased from a vendor. This mechanic first becomes accessible on reaching a Space Station, though it is unlikely players will be able to utilize it until much later. This guide will explain how to get ship parts and assemble a new ship.

No Man's Sky: Orbital update changed up the locations of the Station Interior Facilities. Here is where to find all of them.

How to Get Most Ship Parts

Players will need to dismantle existing ships to get hold of ship parts, by heading for any Space Station and using the Starship Outfitting Terminal. This can usually be found at the back of the station on the left side. Once you interact with the Terminal, players can select "Begin Salvage Analysis" to determine what they can salvage from their current ship. When using this terminal, it is important to have the ship you want to scrap as your active ship. Suppose the ship in question is badly damaged. In that case, players can summon the Anomaly outside the station, swap to the desired ship inside the Anomaly, and then fly it out of the anomaly and straight into the station.

After Salvage Analysis, the terminal will offer to extract valuable components and exchange them for units or extract a ship module. You'll need ship modules to build a new ship, and selecting this option will allow players to choose which module to retrieve.

It is important to note that ship parts are only compatible with specific ship types. For example, you can't dismantle a fighter and use its parts in an explorer or hauler, but you can use them when building a new fighter.

How to Get a Reactor

Reactors are unique among ship parts since they can be purchased directly at any Space Station. Head over to the Ship Technology Merchant and you can purchase reactors of any tier in exchange for Nanites. Nexus Missions can also offer Reactors as a reward.

After getting all the following parts: Reactor Core, Wings, Engine, and Fuselage, you can head for the Starship Fabricator on any Space Station to put together a new ship. Selecting an empty slot will display all appropriate ship parts, with parts the player currently has in their inventory (or their current ship's inventory) moved to the top of the list and colorized to make them easier to find.

Once all the slots are filled, players can assemble their new ship.
