Developer Hello Games has announced that the massive survival title No Man's Sky will make its new home on the Nintendo Switch sometime this summer. No Man's Sky's new announcement came during today's Nintendo Direct presentation in which the procedurally generated universe title will fit into the handheld lineup.

According to the press release, the Nintendo Switch Edition will include the last five years of major updates such as Frontiers, Prisms, Expeditions, and Companions. The upcoming port will support both docked and handheld play modes.

As more third-party games make their way to the Nintendo Switch, No Man's Sky getting a Nintendo Switch port is an exciting announcement for fans of the exploration title. Even though the Switch has a relatively less powerful system than other consoles, developers continue to transfer to the handheld, aware that there will need to be some changes in performance. According to Hello Games, there were challenges with the limitations in the Switch's hardware due to No Man's Sky's procedural generation mechanism. Since No Man's Sky depends heavily on its procedural generation, the developers had to experiment with multiple ideas to make the game run smoothly in both docked and handheld modes. Similar issues have appeared and been rectified in other titles, such as Apex Legends and Kingdom Hearts using cloud gaming.

No Man's Sky has gone through around 15 updates since its disappointing launch back in 2016, in which fans claimed it did not live up to its promises and accused the developers of false advertising. Considering the challenges Hello Games has encountered, needless to say; it has shown great dedication in improving No Man Sky's graphics and gameplay with time. For example, in the latest 3.6 update, players can find advancements in galactic world generation, an updated interface, enhanced visual effects, and significant new story content.

As many notable titles were announced at the Nintendo Direct presentation, the revelation of No Man's Sky comes with anticipation and some doubt that it could even be possible. However, it's been shown that third-party titles have progressed on the Switch with a few technical changes. The handheld itself has continued increasing in sales since its launch in 2017, finally exceeding the infamous Wii.

As No Man's Sky continues to grow, fans can look forward to playing the title this summer on the Switch regardless of its past difficulties. It will be interesting to see what the developers have in-store as it nears its next update.

No Man's Sky is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and is in development for the Nintendo Switch.
