No Man's Sky is an astronomical space adventure game with endless galaxies to explore. Players will encounter aliens, new plants and wildlife, space pirates, and more while they fly through the skies or travel across undiscovered planets. While doing this, they may want to team up with other space explorers.

Although No Man's Sky can be completed solo, players can join others to travel together. Working in groups can make attacking bases, warding off Sentinels, or collecting resources significantly easier. Players who are intimidated by the vast open world don't have to take it on by themselves using the co-op features.

How to Play Multiplayer in No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky

Multiplayer was unavailable in No Man's Sky at launch but is now reasonably streamlined. When players first boot up the game, they will have the option to start a single or multiplayer session. Single-player sessions start solo, but there are opportunities for other players to join.

If players choose multiplayer, they can join someone's session directly or host their own. Available sessions will appear on the menu, or players must choose "Host New Session." If they host their own, they can invite friends who have the game or open their session to the public from the "session settings" menu. They can also add No Man's Sky friends using Friend Codes for cross-play.

If players start in a single-player session, they can team up with others at the Space Anomaly. The Space Anomaly becomes available after a certain part of the Awakenings storyline. After that, they can summon it at will from anywhere in space.

No Man's Sky

Other players will be moving in and out of the Space Anomaly. Whenever someone else is approached, an option to invite them to join a game will appear if they have the setting turned on. Players can also receive invites, which can be toggled on and off in Network Settings. Players can do almost everything in multiplayer as they can solo, including base building, creature taming, space racing, and base takeovers.

Players can also use the Nexus at the Space Anomaly to play with others. The Nexus is a multiplayer mission board that spawns random missions for special rewards. New missions are generated daily, and there are special circumstances for weekend missions. Players can join up with randoms or complete missions with their group if in one. There can be a group of up to four per Nexus mission.
