No Man's Sky is a space adventure game with a never-ending area for players to explore. With a very open-ended storyline, players can hop from planet to planet as they please.

However, there are objectives that can help get things moving along, and one of the first goes over creating a base. Players can have more than one base, but they don't want to set them up just anywhere. This guide has some pointers on where to find the best base location in No Man's Sky.

How to Pick the Best Location For a Base in No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky

In No Man's Sky, there are many galaxies full of unmapped planets. Players aim to explore and discover new species, resources, and secrets throughout the stars. Even though they have the entire space waiting for them, setting up a base shelter is good for easy access to a safe place and valuable resources. Still, there are a few things to keep in mind before setting down a Base Computer.

Avoid Extreme Weather

Many planets have extreme weather conditions, whether too hot, cold, or toxic. Players must maintain their hazard protection when they aren't inside a shelter of some kind.

Unfortunately, many of the planets that aren't the most habitable have a vast variety of needed fuels like Oxygen, Carbon, and Sodium. Many worlds will have neighboring ones with more neutral climates where players can build their base.

Watch out for Aggressive Wildlife

Some Aliens In No Man's Sky Are More Friendly Than Others

The weather isn't the only thing players must remember while settling at a base location. Plant and animal life are thriving on most planets in the galaxies. While there are friendly species, sometimes players will run into hostile creatures.

Toxin-shooting plants and vicious predators call several planets home. Players may be tempted to set up base there because of the bountiful resources, but they must be constantly alert to avoid getting attacked.

Search for Many Resources

One of the main ways players can earn Units is by scanning, mining, and digging for resources. The Exosuit and Starship have features that require Ferrite Dust, Carbon, Sodium, and Oxygen. Players will also need minerals found in deposits around the planets.

Setting up a base on a resource-rich planet is a great way to guarantee players have enough fuel for their vehicles, suits, and technology. Additionally, every time players can scan a new item, they will earn Units.

Build Near an Outpost

Players will want to buy upgrades for their tools and suits or sell extra items to clear their inventory and make Units. Players can visit Space Stations in space, but many planets will have Outposts and Shelters.

While smaller than Space Stations, Outposts usually carry a new weapon or Multi-tool for players to Trade theirs in for. Occasionally, there will also be travelers hanging out in them. Players can find Outposts by flying around the surface of a planet or using their Analysis Visor to find a Beacon.

No Man's Sky is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
