The long-awaited sequel to Team Ninja's critically acclaimed action role-playing series, Nioh 2, is finally here. Like its predecessor, Nioh 2 is a difficult game that rivals Dark Souls in how much it punishes its players.

Also just like the Souls games, there is a sprawling world to explore, collectibles to find, and mysteries to uncover. The game just released, so it will take a while for players to poke around in all the nooks and crannies, but there is one mystery encountered early on that has been figured out; it involves a strange, fat rolling cat.

What is the Fat Rolling Cat?

In the world of Nioh 2, there are a lot of bizarre creatures, but this one, in particular, is known as a Scampuss. These little guys will show up throughout the game, sitting there, being adorable. Players can pet the furball, which will prompt Scampuss to follow them around. At first, it doesn't appear to do much more than that, but its cute, playful nature belies its usefulness.

The sequel allows the summoning of allies and AI, as well as the ability to play in co-op mode since it never hurts to have a little extra help in a tough title like this one, especially considering that there isn't an easy mode. Before going into battle, players will want to bring the rolly cat with them for the same reason. A Scampuss can deal damage to enemies by circling around their feet. The longer it attacks the enemy, the larger it will grow until it eventually disappears.

In addition to the extra damage, the Scampuss provides a slight buff to Yokai force generation. That's the gist on the friendly feline. They'll pop up often throughout the game, so players should doll out pets liberally. It takes a while to beat Nioh 2, so players will need all the aid they can get.

There are all sorts of new beasts and demons to take down in the sequel, with some more challenging than others. One of the game's most dangerous is the Enenra, a Yokai of smoke and darkness. Players will encounter it at the end of the burning blacksmith town level. It will take strategy and skill, as well as a bit of luck, to beat it, but we have compiled tips on how to beat Enenra in case players are struggling.

Nioh 2 is out now for PC and PlayStation 4.
