It was earlier this year that Nioh 2 launched to rave reviews and positive fan reception. Developer Team Ninja's own spin on the Dark Souls formula became a big hit with the original Nioh in 2017 and with Nioh 2 being just as successful, it's no surprise it is getting a great package deal alongside new ports.
Publisher Koei Tecmo confirms that Nioh 2 will receive the Complete Edition treatment by packaging the 2019 sequel along with all of Nioh 2's post-release DLC expansions. The publisher also announced that the Complete Edition won't simply be limited to the PlayStation 4, but also release on PC and PlayStation 5.
The Nioh 2 Complete Edition will release on February 5 in 2021 and will include the already released Tengu's Disciple and Darkness in the Capital DLC packs as well as the forthcoming First Samurai expansion. With Nioh 2 releasing in March of this year, the port for Steam comes just under a month away from a full year of PlayStation exclusivity. PC players will also get the added bonus often associated with Steam releases, a wonderfully goofy hat. Nioh 2 players will receive an exclusive "Valve Helmet" which takes the term "keyboard samurai" quite literally.
The Official PlayStation blog confirms that Nioh 2 Complete Edition for the PlayStation 5 won't simply be a port, but a remaster. Nioh and Nioh 2 will be coming to the PlayStation 5 through The Nioh Collection which will feature remasters for both titles. The blogpost announcement further confirms the remasters will be available for purchase separately and that they will both be Complete Editions for the original Nioh and its 2020 sequel. Nioh 2 Complete Edition for PlayStation 4 does allow for a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for those holding out on a next-gen upgrade.
Team Ninja did give some of the juicier details for what players can expect from the PC port of Nioh 2. A tweet from the developer's official Twitter account confirmed that Nioh 2 Complete Edition will be taking full advantage of the PC. The tweet made sure to note that Nioh 2 will support 4K resolutions, Ultra wide-screen compatibility, HDR support alongside 144Hz monitors, and 120 FPS. The PlayStation 5 remaster of Nioh 2 is confirmed to support 4k resolution and 120 FPS.
Despite Nioh 2 ranking high in the sale charts and getting positive feedback, the game unfortunately released just before the ultra successful Animal Crossing: New Horizons which would dominate the gaming landscape. With the PC port and the remaster set to release next year, it may give Nioh 2 another chance to make an impression without being overshadowed.
Nioh 2 is available now on PlayStation 4 and will release on PC and PlayStation 5 on February 5, 2021.
