Nintendo has updated the list of top-selling games on the Switch as of December 31, 2022. Released in 2017, Nintendo Switch is currently one of the best-selling gaming consoles of all time, as it has sold 122.55 million as of the end of 2022. This number means that the Nintendo Switch has officially outsold the PlayStation 4, with only the PS2 and Nintendo DS above it.

In addition to strong hardware sales, some major Nintendo Switch first-party exclusives have sold tens of millions of copies, including new entries in The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Mario, and Pokemon franchises. Nintendo has now updated the list of best-selling games on the Switch, revealing an impressive attach rate for its first-party titles.

As reported by Nintendo Life, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is currently the best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, with an astounding 52 million copies sold as of December 31, 2022. Below it is Animal Crossing: New Horizons with 41.59 million units, followed by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 30.44. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one of the highest-rated games of all time, isn’t far behind with 29 million units, with Pokemon Sword and Shield sitting at 25.68 million.

Super Mario Odyssey is right behind Pokemon as it has sold 25.12 million copies since its release in 2017, but the game below it may come as a surprise to some players. Nintendo confirms that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have sold an impressive 20.61 million pieces since their release in November 2022. It’s an astounding achievement considering the various controversies related to the graphical quality and technical issues present in recent games like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Super Mario Party, Ring Fit Adventure, and Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee! make up the rest of the list, with no game selling less than 15 million copies. While a majority of the lineup consists of massive franchises, Ring Fit Adventure is probably the biggest surprise entry in this list.

Nintendo Switch has been out for around six years, and rumors about its successor have been circulating for a while now. Some rumors even pointed to Nintendo launching a mid-generation upgrade with improved graphical capabilities, but this device is yet to see the light of day. Now, a new rumor suggests that Nintendo could soon be shifting its focus to a supposed Switch 2, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom being the last major first-party release for the original Switch.
